Resident Assistant
I really wanted to be a resident assistant. I've been working really hard "compensatory learning" perhaps on social capacities with dry wit and charisma to boot. I currently have a job in the campus billiard hall and network with quite a few cool people. A coworker said I'd make a good RA, so I was pretty enthusiastic to apply.
-I could get back on-campus for free rather than the small commute off-campus as well as a meal plan
-Be more connected
-Host good cultural-themed events, or just be the first to get Fight Club in the commons.
-All apartment style at our college, so I could get a room to myself like I always have.
-Even the "crappy" stuff like drama, well I couldn't care less anyway. Not too much different from asylum work.
With a recommendation from my boss who is pretty high up, I thought that I pretty much had this in the bag. My GPA is great.
I forgot something really important though that I think a lot of people, especially Aspies, forget:
1) There is no such thing as a meritocracy. Especially when your interviewers are all kind of young.
2) Don't be your very clever and competent self in an interview.
3) If you are not a frat puppet, you don't exist. I know my boss doesn't want any more Greeks hired because she prefers people who schedules are flexible. I figured it'd be the same in this department.
Anyway, obviously kind of pissed. Imput? Experiences? Advice? All RA comments are appreciated.
The benefits of being a RA are nice. I'm confused though: are you in a frat or not? and did you already have your interview? Some of my friends applied to be RAs and I know that an important component deals with how involved you were in the student activities while you were living in the dorms. Also, it's beneficial if you're a good networker and you know some of your interviewers.
