I am currently in 10th grade, and I have lost ALL interest in school. I find my self esteem detarerating. I believe that I could teach my self better then my teachers. I pretty much spend my days day dreaming in an attempt to dissasoseat from my enverment. I spend my mornings atpenting to find perfect close that will magicily help me find a girl, yet keep me invisible.

Is homeschool as a highschooler a wise chose? Are there any sites that you have used that contains good infermation on homeschooling 9th-12th grade.

Any tips on how to bring this up to my NT mom?

What state do you live in?

We live in Pennsylvania, and there is a very strong cyber school program. It is all computer based, with some courses that are done self-study through the internet, and other courses that are with a live class on the internet.

I have not enrolled my children in this school (yet, we are looking at it for middle school for my 10 year old), but I have a friend who's son is a sophmore in high school who's been doing cyber school for two years, and he loves it. He gets his social life through belonging to band (he still attends his public school for band purposes), through boy scouts, and through his church, so he's got a well-rounded life.

I would definitely suggest that you look into something like this. If you think that you can self-motivate, and make sure that you do your own work, then a type of cyber school is definitely for you. The one thing that I think you might want to do on the side, though, is make sure that you take an additional SAT or ACT prep class, because I'm not sure how well these cyber schools prepare you for those college entrance exams. I just think that they are new enough to the game that you may need additional help in that area.

What do you mean?

I mean, if you think you can teach yourself better than your teachers, then do it. Why do you have be OUT of school to do it? I spent my days in class thinking about and and reading about other stuff, only pausing to pay attention when something new came up. I would say it is NOT a good idea to start homeschooling in high school unless you take online courses or something. If classes are boring, take AP classes. If you can't get into AP classes, then make a huge fuss until you do. If you are bored, why are you bored? Is it because you already know the material? Then read something else. If you don't WANT to learn the material then that is completely different.

Why is your self esteem slipping if you feel you are smarter than your teachers? If it is because your grades are slipping, then you don't really know the material and you should ask your teachers for help. If you know the material but don't care enough to do homework, then again, doing school at home will probably exacerbate the problem. If you hate school for other reasons than just mental stultification, then what are those reasons?

dexkaden brings up some good points about AP classes.

My oldest son fought us when we suggested AP classes. Then he described the same things you have about regular ed classes -- he was bored, he didn't like the other (less than brilliant) classmates, he felt like the teacher was an idiot, etc. So in his Junior year he took one Honors or AP class, and discovered that he'd made a huge mistake. The teacher was more than adequate, and the other people in class HAD A BRAIN! It was like he discovered some new, wonderful world. In his senior year he took three AP classes, and totally enjoyed school for the first time in a long while.

If you do stay in school, AP classes might be the way to go, along with clubs like Amnesty International, and any other kind of off the wall clubs where they talk about things going on out in the big world. You almost always get more interesting kids in these sort of clubs.

Interesting topic..can you take AP classes when your spelling is deficient etc?

I don't know what AP is, but I'm assuming it's some advanced course form? If you have problems with spelling, you might not so easily get into an English course, but if you're strong in maths/sciences, I'm pretty certain you could get into such courses.

If you decide to homeschool- there's -alot- of online type programs you can get your hs diploma with. If you feel you honestly would do better outside of school, go for it. Just make sure you're going to have the motivation to make yourself do the work.
It's ALOT harder to motivate yourself to work when there isn't teachers pushing you and threatening detentions and whatnot, but
if you want a diploma, that's what you've got to deal with.
