Hi, I'm a parent of an AS 7yo boy and have a question for the students here....

For those who attend school, do you prefer your teacher to be the same gender as yourself? And if so why?

Hmmm, it doesn't really matter for me as long as they are nice. My year 1 teacher was the best and nicest teacher I ever had (was a she). And my year 5 teacher was awesome too (was a he). As long as they are nice, know their stuff, and cheerful in a way, then I don't really care.

It doesn't usually matter, but I have found that women teachers tend to be a bit more patient with me. (I'm a girl, btw) That could just be human nature, however.

Most teachers are old so it doesn't really matter.

When I was younger, I preferred female teachers. But ever since high school, I've preferred male teachers, probably because I get along better with males and, due to stereotypes, the majority of science teachers are male.

When I was in primary school, the teachers who were most flexible were females (I wasnt diagnosed until almost finishing primary). Now, most of my female teachers irk me, and are completely unsympathetic with most issues I might have in school. I have 4 male teachers (stereotypically all my science classes and geog) and they are very nice. Only my biology teacher knows about my DX, and he has a LF son, which is pretty good.

I don't think gender really plays a role, more the atmosphere of the classes, and what the teacher teaches. For instance, no matter how nice my English teacher gets, I will always hate the lessons, and a bad physics teacher won't keep me from physics lessons.

to me it matters more on the qulaities of the teacher then just the gender.

I prefer female teachers but it doesn't have anything to do with AS. I've always been around females so i'm more comfortable with them. I don't think it usually matters if the teacher is male or female.

Doesn't matter to me. I've had teachers of all abilities of both genders.

I prefer female teachers, they seem to be more patient.

^^ This could also be because most of the male teachers are P.e teachers and I used to let them know that I hated P.e

Yes; women treated me atrociously and their idea of "empathy" is completely out-of-touch for me.

Gender doesn't really matter that much to me for anything. I'm female and had a lot of great female teachers. All of my favourites have been male though. I don't think it is because of their gender, though, just because of their individual personalities and teaching styles.

Edit: I'm in university, btw, but when I think of teachers I am thinking from elementary school until now.
