Interested in hearing advice on avoiding procrastinating when there's important work to be done. Currently I have to do some online work before the end of the month, and I've been avoiding it really badly :-(.

Anyways, share some things that have worked for you in the past

Set schedules for yourself and adhere to them religiously.

Stop going on this forum. Lol. And major in something you like so you enjoy the homework.

Btw, don't use Asperger's as an excuse if you are. I doubt Asperger's has anything to do with procrastination.

Iole, I went through six-plus years of college and only pulled a couple of all-nighters. I was in the Navy before, and they were notorious for putting things off to the last minute, frequently resulting in everybody getting hysterical, and leading to all-night work sessions. After four years of that, I got turned off enough to where I began doing things early just to avoid the stress. And procrastination is stress.

Two suggestions:

1. Create task lists, that you can cross off one right after the other. In fact, you can take it a step further and break your tasks into smaller tasks. For example, "laundry" becomes:
-Separate laundry into piles (whites and colors, maybe)
-Bag up the colors
-Place them in washer with soap and start
-Remove clothes from washer when finished
-Place clothes in dryer
-Add whites to washer
And so on and so forth... This can make tasks more manageable because you have the benefit of those nice, concrete details right in front you.

2. Try to associate task completion with positive emotions. When you cross off something, take a moment to feel how rewarding it is. And when you eliminate big chunks of tasks, focus on how nice it feels that you no longer have to do those tasks.
