I'm another of the "depends on the job market" hopeful professor-in-waiting. The dissertation will be completed (draft) by November 30, I get to make revisions through January 31, and in the meantime I'm also balancing the teaching / job hunt life of a grad student.
The market is weak, but it's never great thanks to an oversupply of professors in many fields. If I end up doing something else, that's going to be okay. I realize I have to be flexible after watching the last batch of grads struggle. Life is what it is...
That raises issues of disclosure, which I'm not sure how I might address if I land any interviews this winter. Tough question to ponder, even though universities claim to be tolerant / accommodating.
