In high school, I went to a Catholic School, where we could wear whatever we wanted as long as it wasn't blaphemous towards the Lord, offensive to Christianity, hateful, vulgar, or revealing.Students were not allowed to wear spaghetti strap shirts, anything that showed cleavage, anything that showed underwear, or anything such as short skirts more than 4 inches above the knees.People also were not allowed to wear hats inside the building.

In college, however, anything goes.....as long as you dont run around naked.

Between kindergarten and 10th grade, my school district had a very relaxed dress code. In the 11th and 12th grades, the district implemented "standardized dress", which required students to wear solid-colored polo-shirts, and pants/shorts/skirts with a belt, if it had the places for belts. The theory was that it would be more difficult to hide weapons with the new dress code (keep in mind that this was before Columbine or Virginia Tech).

In college, anything goes. Strangely enough, at my current university, I see a lot of people wearing worn-out blue jeans and Che Guevara T-shirts, considering that this is Texas.

My high school dress code is okay: You have to wear a collared shirt or turtleneck (any color or stripes/plaid only) and non-jean-material bottoms. Until you get to high school there is an actual uniform: green/white polo shirts and khaki bottoms-- hideous. Our school also has this tradition of having "jean days" where you can pay a dollar (towards a charity) and get to wear jeans one Friday. I like trying to find nice outfits within the limits of the dress code. It can be fun, but sometimes really annoying.

You either have to wear a black, Nay Blue (at my high school, different schools in my district have diffrent second option colors depending on what your main color is) or white polo but you can also wear one of the school sponsored T-shirts. And you have to tuck your shirts in but most teachers don't care unless the adminstration gets on them about it.

And you have to wear Khaki, Navy Blue or black pants, shorts, skirts etc.

We have a uniform and there are a few things. Girls can only wear studs, boys no earrings. Girls hair tied up if it's past shoulder length boys not aloud past there. But the thing is with tucking in your shirt and uniform etc most of the teachers have given up. New and strict teachers still do it (most new teachers give up after a bit too)

Not strict what-so-ever! Many people at my school cross-dress a LOT! And nobody cares at all.

Whenever I hear about people who show up to school in drag and aren't beaten senseless, I marvel at how different schools can be. At my high school you were libel to be killed for doing that.

My school doesn't have a strict dress code. You need to be wearing a dark blue shirt and/or jacket with no slogans on it, except the school name. You also need to wear dark blue or black shorts, skirts or trousers (pants).

Open-toed footwear is forbidden for safety reasons, but the teachers don't really care about that except in woowork/metalwork classes because so many people ignore that rule.

You also need to have long hair tied back in woowork/electronics/metalwork, but people don't mind because that's for safety reasons.

Wow, I have just been quite surprised to learn that most schools in America have no school uniform. You're lucky. In England, where I live, pretty much every school requires a uniform. We have to wear a purple blazer with a shirt underneath and grey trousers. In winter, we can put a jumper on in between the blazer and the shirt, and in summer, we can take off the blazer but only in lessons or break. At assembly or any special events you have to wear the blazer no matter what.

My school has a uniform but they have different choices ie jersey or polar fleece, black dress pants in winter and year 13's can wear a commemerative leavers rugby jersey as part of the uniform. Mostly as long as its in the uniform code they're pretty flexible.

I went to private school for and had to wear a pleated plaid skirt a white blouse with sweater and saddle shoes,
It was great not having to choose what to wear everyday, I loved my uniform and I still fit in it and wear it on pub
crawls with my girlfriends at least once a year

My school's dress code is really not strict. Basically, you just have to wear clothes.

Very strict!

We had to be in the nude at all times. Even in winter :( We were not even allowed socks (got a demerit if they were found in possessions, underwear meant detention, and shirts/pants could mean expulsion!)

Oh wait... maybe that was something else ....

At our school, nothing too revealing, has depictions of dirty words, sex, drugs, booze, things like that.

In phy. ed. only stud earrings (for safety reasons), no skateboarding shoes, no boxer shorts, no boob tubes (tube tops to Yanks), no muscle shirts, no vests (tank tops), no jeans. Just sweats, t-shirts, socks, trainers (tennis shoes), and shorts.

My college basically has none! Besides the usual nothing offensive or overly vulgar and shoes/shirts in food service areas. As long as you don't strip in public you can even go around nude if you wanted. I actually walk around the campus in a skirt occasionally.
