Autism, Aspergers and ADHD kids "bullied" by teach
I've been bullied by teachers, seen an autistic co student bullied by a teacher, and know that my son has been bullied by teachers.
It is just a fact of life. Bullying won't go away. But we shouldn't let the bullies define us. In the end, they have to live with themselves. It's their problem, not ours.
Well, you shouldn't be beating the crap out of someone. Violence is wrong except in self defense. Still, it's wrong to punish people unevenly. You don't have to passively take stuff. You can stand up for yourself but unless they attack you, you should not hit them. It just makes things worse for you. I know that I used to get in a lot of trouble for things other people were allowed to do. A middle school that I used to go to decided to create in response to my sensory difficulties a bizarre system where I got suspended for the day every time I had to leave the room due to sensory overload. I was given the awful choice of trying to do my work in severe pain or getting suspended for a day. On the other hand, if neurotypical students said that they couldn't concentrate in class because of the noise they just got to sit outside the classroom until they finished their test. This was an advanced school for the record. In earlier years I would have to endure taunting, poking, shouting in my ear and people making me smell things they knew made me sick and whenever I screamed, cried or tried to fight back I got in trouble for making a scene. They always said that I was always in a situation where there was trouble. Apparently they didn't think to think that maybe it was because I was always the one getting bullied. I have other aspie friends who had to deal with the same sort of stuff. Teachers just generally do not like people who are different sadly.

Mom suing Catholic board for $325,000
By JUSTIN SADLER, QMI Agency
OTTAWA -- A lawsuit that alleges the Ottawa Catholic School Board failed to protect a bullying victim could set a legal precedent, said a bullying prevention expert.
Krisha Stanton is suing the school board for $325,000 — as well as other school faculty and staff — after she said her 10-year-old child was the victim of repeated acts of bullying and now suffers from post-traumatic stress and anxiety.
If successful, the case could set a precedent in Ontario, making school boards and staff liable for incidents of bullying, Carleton University psychology professor Dr. Tina Daniels said.
“It will be interesting to see where the responsibility is perceived to fall,” she said.
“If that’s the case,” Stanton said Monday, “and the end result is that these policies and procedures that are supposed to be in place are followed and are monitored more closely, then I think that’s a good thing.”
Stanton said her daughter, Jaclyn, suffered repeated assaults and threats at St. Isidore elementary school in 2007.
She alleges not enough was done to protect her daughter from being victimized despite several meetings and phone calls with school staff about the issue.
Bruce Feldthusen, a dean at the University of Ottawa’s law department, said there is already case law saying teachers and principals can be held responsible for students in their care, but he is unaware of any involving bullying.
“If this lawsuit were successful it would be a new, as far as I am aware, application of an established principle rather than a new principle itself ... In general there is no reason why such a case cannot succeed if the evidence of unreasonable action or failure to act is there,” he said.
The Ontario government recently passed Bill 157, which among other things requires teachers to report serious incidents, including bullying, to the school principal who is then required to contact the victims’ parents. Schools also have to notify parents of steps taken to ensure the student’s safety after such cases.
Schools are also legally required to run anti-bullying programs under the province’s Safe Schools Act, but Ontario should augment the legislation to make prevention programming a higher priority, Daniels said, adding that school boards and faculty should take a more proactive approach to prevention too.
“We’re still at the point where people are not sure how to intervene,” she said. “And it’s not going to be successful if it’s simply mandated. You need a genuine interest and concern from the adults in the schools.”
School board spokeswoman Mardi deKemp said lawyers are handling the matter and declined further comment. None of the allegations have been proven in court and the board hasn’t yet filed a statement of defence.

ALBERTAN...and DAMN PROUD OF IT!!
Grade 9 i had a teacher who had good intentions but was less then understanding. She tried to force me to socialize even after i explained my situation (aspie) however in year 11 things get a lot better, you have more freedom and teachers are far more understanding though the increase in workload is less then enjoyable

I've had teachers who told me that I'm stupid, that I'm a terrible child, and others that sarcastically threatened to hit me (though I can't detect sarcasm).
The worst experience I've had with a teacher was one I had in second grade who told me, "You know, your parents must really hate you because I'm sorry, if you were my kid, I wouldn't deal with you. I'd put you in foster care."
I'm not sure, but I think that would be scarring even for an NT.

Stories like this bring up legions of bad memories. Seriously when I have kids I think my wife is going to have to do most of the interfacing with the school. If I do it there's going to end up being a lot of blood on the floor at the end of the meeting. Most Teachers as a rule (especially public school) teachers tend to rank lower on the humanity scale than a rabid lemur. I won't discuss my own experiences here but suffice to say there was an average of one decent teacher and three or four nazi equivalents throughout most of my schooling.
