I don't think it's pointless. Some students have major learning disabilities and a special ed room is a quiet place where they can get extra help in a smaller group setting which means more attention for them which they will need. It might make you stand out but there's nothing to be ashamed about just like there's nothing to be ashamed about having AS.

I would say no since my brother is going to a special class :)
But he takes danish and english at the normal school :)

I'm NT. I was in a self contained reading room for most of grade school. This was for like 2 hours a day. The school pulled it off wonderfully, we tranistioned into the other class with none the wiser, including ourselfs. We got much more help with reading. It helped greatly. This was about 20 years ago in a working class suburb.

What was hard was that my older brother was in the gifted and talented group because of his high IQ and the teachers said, "Oh Chris, I had your older brother. He was soo smart, I'll expect top notch work from you." For the first few weeks, the teachers thought I was either being lazy or defiante for getting things wrong,-they believed that I had a super high IQ like my brother. Then a month into the school year they'd start to realize I wasn't a copy of my brother. Year after year I heard that and it was so painful.
