blocked in my mind: dose any one else have this?
cat got your tongue?
lost your glasses, found em on your face?
lost your pencil, found it in your ear?
'Oh, I know this one, at least I can contextualize it now I've just forgotten the exact word...'
thinking of the best comebacks ever! An hour too late...
writer's block, as has been mentioned, along with all manner of creative blocks;
these things are not in so far as I know an a termed phenomena, because of their natural division in categorization. I'd personally profess a specific cause: stress.
When looking for something, sometimes the wisest thing to do is to willfully forget about. I've been given that advice and it really does seem to work. If there's a wall around something, go mario ghost on it and turn your back, and then when you remember what you're looking for, turn back and jump for it! You're trying too hard, go back to basics.
There is an interview with bruce lee where he makes some interesting comments:
'You are very much in control of the movement, by too much control therefore you are kind of [over]concerned about the execution. Just forget about it, do it. When you just ease the burden of your mind, you just do it. '
You can glean from this what you will.
"One had to cram all this stuff into one's mind, whether one liked it or not. This coercion had such a deterring effect that, after I had passed the final examination, I found the consideration of any scientific problems distasteful to me for an entire year... It is in fact nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom; without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail. It is a very grave mistake to think that the enjoyment of seeing and searching can be promoted by means of coercion and a sense of duty"

My optimal respose to this issue
Pull back, try a different method. It is like trying to find the optimal point to tear down a wall, unique every time it happens. *Tink* *Tink* *Thunk*
This solution experiences critical failure when you are put under the timed test situation.
And I 100% agree with Einstein.
However, Plato thought otherwise - "Philosophers have to be somehow made to rule." grrr...

...Everything is insane.
For me I know that the information I need is in my head, but it feels like it is in a tangled ball of wool. I can't find how to get that one bit of information out. I can write entire essays from the knowledge in my head, but it is a VERY long, tormenting process. When I have explained my disorganised/tangled thinking to others it has usually led to talk of ADD.
I know what you mean. My solution is sleep. If I'm facing an insurmountable problem I won't figure it out unless I get some sleep. When I'm awake I daydream and self-project all day long, but by the end of the day my mind hurts. When I go to sleep I'm not burdened by anything at all and my mind just figures it out. The next day I attempt whatever it was that I was stumped on and get it the first time. This happens to me all the time.
