I did seminar in all of my classes (even latin) in highschool. I graduated three years ago. It's good to write out a long response to the questions. Often you can use at least part of the answer you have written. Make sure you've marked off the evidence you're suing for each point, because reading it can also help to fill space.
I have this problem too, and found I was only able to participate fully in a Socratic when hand raising was allowed (sadly has only happened once). However, last year my school set up a 504 plan for me that states I get help in socratics and public speaking. You might want to ask a teacher if they'd be able to initiate you into the conversation, ie they or another student asks if you have anything to contribute. As long as you're preparing mentally throughout, it's definitely not as bad as worrying when it's appropriate to add to the discussion.
