The point was...um...to talk about how mis-understood we are and how we are considered speds when we really aren't.(you don't have to be in a special ed class to be considered a sped ,you know, you could be a homeschooled aspie)Yep...or maybe it was just pointless.

Pointless.

Wormy,
This is the best part of posting on WP, when we all get to smile at each other and say, "Hey, I know where you are coming from and it's alright. We all get hyped up and forget our manners from time to time and the best part is we are all learning. WP is a good place to be for comfort and support."

your friend,

Merle

It's only ignorant people who think like that.
There are some people who understand.
Autistic people in movies etc, are portrayed like that because that's what the general public can relate to as "autistic".

AS is a form of autism because the basic shared characteristic is lacking the ability to communicate.
Different people and those with different forms of autism display differing characteristics in certain areas, and this is why autism is referred to as a spectrum.

I like to think of autism as a needle, like the kind you find on a speed-o-meter. (Sounds silly I know, bear with me!)
The needle can move from one end of the gauge to the other, but is still attached at the same point.
Think of that one point as that shared characteristic, and each end of the gauge the two extremes of autism.
Everyone's needle is attached at the same point, but everyone is at a different place on the gauge.
If you see what I mean!

Yeah, why are autisitic people made out to be ret*ds? I mean, come on! Before I got to high school, I was almost always in a special ed class, and I used to ride either short buses or normal-length buses with very few kids in them. Or was that due to the fact that I was taken to schools across the district because those schools were the only ones that had special ed classes? I'm not stupid, look at my grades, and see for yourself!

Well, I have not only Aspergers Syndrome, but Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Terrets Syndrome, and Adhd. I myself know for a fact that the kid on CSI was like my old friend(Who I just call Stevie). Stevie had Autism so bad that his muscles and nerves were shot. He has an electric Wheelchair and Aced most of his classes. As for the number thing, I count like that when I'm stressed beyond belief. 18,19,18,18,17,18,19,9,29,40. It's commonly triggered with stress. But I agree, that Autism is most always thought to be some kind of Mental Retardation, while in fact, if we embrace it, we could be smarter than Einstein who did in fact have Autism. There is a whole site you can go to to learn about it. KindTree, look it up. There are some interesting facts and stories about kids. Hope this helps!

P.S. I only made this account for today and I probably won't use it after this.
