I'm gonna be a freshman in college this year and I'm more than a little scared. Not of the academics, I know I can handle college-level work, but I'm scared of the new dynamics and whether or not I'll be able to make friends, assuming that I decide I actually want friends.

Its sort of a good thing to be somewhat scared.

Don't stress meeting new people too much. Find activities/ people who you have stuff in common with and just see where it goes. Remember to be friendly.

Don't do Fraternities/greek life whatever you do. I actually did one for a year. It could have gone terribly, considering the deserved reputations frats have, but it was more just dumb than anything else. They demand a ton of time/money from you, and ( in my case) it generally refused to care about me as an individual or take into account any extenuating circumstances.
It may have been I just did not have a ton in common with the people, but it was the closest thing to being in a cult that I have experienced.

Communicate what you have to people if you think something could come up: professors and other classmates if your in a group project or something.

One big thing:try to limit internet usage by a lot. Its pretty tempting to use (tons of stuff on the intenret) and more than understandable if you feel somewhat lonely, frustrated or bored, but don't do it in unscheduled amounts. It can distract from social/ or academics if your not careful.

Instead of surfing the net as you work, I found it more helpful to listen to music instead. It provides the sort of relief one looks for with the net, but is more conducive to work.

I graduated college in 4 years. Pm me if you want any tips!
