And it's a good way to get revenge on the bullies so you can show off how successful you've become while the jocks are cleaning kindergarten public toilets for a living.

Maybe this is off-topic but i've always wonder if what is shown in movies(especially american) is true.I mean: Are ther so many different groups? Is uncool people beaten up?Do football players never talk to nerd? Are cheerleaders so snob?
I thought it wasn't true but what happened at Columbine confused me...

Sorry for my bad english.

I read some magazine article on "how to survive the horrors of high school" it was kind of an attempt to be funny, but anyway, they had a list of stereotypes and how to deal with them, with a description of each: The stoner, the jock, the nerd, Miss Popular, The Honours Student, Mr. Ordinary, the quiet girl and the stud. And while at first glance they look like sutpid stereotypes, when I gave the article a bit of thought, there was at least one person I could think of at high school who fitted each category perfectly. These stereotypes have to come from somewhere, I suppose...

As long as Christians don't act arrogant and like they are better than they really are, I have nothing against them.

Hey, Anoconda. When I went to high school I had a lot of similar problems (and still do!) with the whole "emo" crowd. Thing you've gotta realize is - they do that "we're so cool to be uncool" thing because they are uncool - fundamentally lame. They enjoy being miserable. Think about it - they get off on pretending to have problems, on bragging about how clean they are (for the sXe kids - you know them, the kids who push everyone around, are jerks everywhere and then yell "BELIEVE IN JESUS!". Somehow I don't think believing in Christ and being a goddamn moronic jerk are in line with each other...), or on bragging about what sort of paint they huffed today (for the hardcore emo kids who paint "pictures of their angst" or whatever). It's tremendously lame.

Don't worry about them. They're nothing, and they'll enjoy being nothing. Don't even associate with "that crowd." Make friends individually, don't listen to Dashboard Confessional, have a good time with people who want to have fun. It's hard and slow going making friends, but I think you'll find because you're not worried about "the crowd" or "being cool/intentionally unhappy" that the friends you make are real friends, rather than the superficial jerks those kids wind up being.

And believe me, having a car doesn't make you awesome. The rich kids that got cars early were the ones that wound up wrecking them or getting their licenses suspended for being morons on the road - and then you can laugh at them all you want.

But, uh... as to one of the later comments you made... why would you care if they won't give head? You really want an emo chick messing around down there? They'll probably want to listen to Bright Eyes and cry afterwards. Why don't you try meeting someone who's actually worth more than "getting head"?

At the school that I attend, the stereotypes aren't that bad. There tend to be different social groups, some are clannish, others generally accept different people. I'm not cool, but I've never gotten beaten up. Maybe it's because I tend not to interact with people who actually care about "coolness". I would probably be considered a nerd (or a geek), and a few of my closest guy friends are on the football team. The school I attend does not have cheerleading, so I don't know what to say about cheerleaders.

Well said, Jason. Anaconda, are you sure these "emo" people are actually Christians? From what you've said, they seem to be stereotyped Christians at best.

There is no way around any type of Christian being in this world. I tried to make my last point from the most appropriate standpoint possible. I was just shocked by that not-so-nice comment that was made.

He seems to be referring to a class of people known as "straight-edge," whom I regard as Christians in name only. They identify themselves as Christians, to the point of tattooing themselves with crosses etc., and abstain from drugs, sex, and alcohol. The abstinence is not a problem, it's their vocalness about it that winds up being the major issue. They are often violent, sticking together in large groups at concerts, jumping around and hurting others and blaming their victims for what they percieve to be their sins.

To me, this seems so diametrically opposite to the Christian way of life... beating those that don't agree with you? Forcefully proclaiming that all those who disagree with you are hellbound while you are saved? Jesus gave sermons about watching out for being hypocrites - giving alms in public, marking yourself so everyone knows you're fasting, etc.. These kids are the hypocrites he refers to - they just don't know it.

That's not to say that all straight-edge kids are bad people, because they're really not - and not everyone who abstains from sex, drugs and alcohol is straight-edge. Those're very noble ideals to uphold. But when you become violent and arrogant in attempting to enforce those rules as some of the straight-edge kids do, you become no better than those who don't care.

Yeah, well said Lionize. I don't think he had a problem with all Christians in general, just the ones that take it too far, in his case the emo ones. And I know what he means, again they're only being Christian because it's 'cool' for them to do so.

I have nothing against anyones religion, believe in what you like as long as you don't force it on others. I accept anyone elses religion as long as they accept my Atheism.

Although if the fundy christians in your schools and elsewhere want to outlaw gay marriage then they better take that brass poll out of their a**. Some of their beliefs rely on a mistaken understanding of causality, and in general are based on magical thinking and not reason.

Most relize after they leave high school that the caste system in high school is, as you say, "fundamentally lame." Young people like to think they are important but almost always are not. We will see who ends up successful in life.

Tone of voice means a lot. As I've said before, one bad thing can hurt a person's feelings tremendously.
