Password-protect your computer and either lock it or don't leave it logged in when you're not there.

The main issue I had with the computer incident was the fact that I got tons of viruses and spyware and trojan horses as a result of the downloaded porn.

Right, but when you live in an environment like a dorm you have to be a little more careful with your possessions. If you put a password on your user account and either log out or CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the Lock button when you leave, your roommates wont be able to download any porn.

Does UT San Marcos have suite style rooms where you share an apartment but have your own lockable bedroom? You wouldn't necessarily have room for your stationary bike, but you'd be able to have quite a lot of privacy.

To make matters worse, I have had insomnia two nights in a row because my roommate stays out late and I can hear him talking on the phone, despite me being in another room. Also, I don't know if he is doing this, but the thermostat is set to 80 degrees, and I can't sleep in a hot, stuffy room.

That's a very common problem because a lot of university housing skimps on insulation. I tell most of my residents to use a fan or a white noise generator to block out background noise. If you don't have sensory issues regarding loud motors or other forms of white noise, it's a good idea.

If you guys have individual control of your thermostat then turn it down. If it keeps getting put back at 80, tell your roommate that you need to agree to keep it around 75 or so, because it's impossible to sleep in 80 degree heat.

Otherwise, talk to your RA, and failing that talk to your Hall Director.

As for the one-bedroom at my school, my parents are expecting ME to pay for it, and it costs $3,900 per semester, and I don't have much money. And getting a summer job that will cover the costs will be impossible because of the recession. People with bachelor's degrees are settling for fast-food jobs--that's how bad the economy is.

I'm lucky because my school doesn't charge extra for singles, but is it possible for you to get a doctor's note explaining your dx and requesting a single room as an accommodation, or at the very least a roommate with a similar sleep schedule? I've been able to get a single by requesting it as an accommodation.

The RAs are powerless, and I don't even think that calling the campus police will help any either.

Your Hall Director or Residence Life Coordinator isn't, however. We deal with issues like yours all the time; if you don't say anything then nothing can be done.

heh... wanna trade roomies? yours sounds nice compared to what mine were doing this semester.... (i've just recently moved into an apartment by myself, so i've fixed my problem)

I was one of 4 people sharing a three-room house that was renting from someone far away, this is what they did over 4 months

Flea shampoo/WD40/who knows what else in my zest/fabric softner

anything of mine left in common areas got placed next to my door at night, so when I woke up it was like ooo delivery (and this was only done with my stuff, they didn't touch the person who was in the third room's stuff when it was out) then they would leave their dirty laundry inside out in the bathroom for days, and put her dirty shoes on the dining room table

my books, placed on my shelf on the common bookshelf in the livingroom, kept getting rearranged

my meds would find themselves in odd positions

items inside my room would get rearranged

they took one of my backpacks (filled with stuff) and stuck it in the shed, i didn't find it until I moved out.. I knew it was missing. I just didn't know where it had gone off to

they took my $400 camera, without asking, and only gave it back when I asked for the SD card (which i had loaned them to use for their PS3)

snapped open my combination bike lock (broke the tumblers)

It keeps happening. My thermostat must be around 60 degrees, and I have to have virtually total silence for me to get a good night's sleep.

I got the one-bedroom apartment I was wanting for the upcoming year, so that's a relief.

Yeah, it's the end of the semester so I've been bouncing around the internet a little more.

How did the transfer process go?

Why is it so terrible that they're downloading porn on your computer?
Unless you don't have ample virus protection, firewall, etc...
Do you have something against porn, or is it just the invasion of your private property that worries you?
