I can see how detention might not be a bad thing for someone with AS.

At my sister's school, detention cost the parents money.

I did actually like detention because it was peaceful, but it was silent. I still needed some wanted background noise, as it was practically torture for me.
We only had detention after school though. Very rarely were people set detention on break times, because you're not allowed to stop kids from getting some lunch if they don't have a lunch box.

Lunch Detention = very minor punishment to me. All I really lost was the chance to socialize with kids, which I didn't always want to do anyway.

I never got after school detention.

Saturday Detention = punishment, because I have to get up early to go to it and it eats into my weekend.

I was never suspended, but I assumed I'd be grounded at home for the duration of the suspension or longer, thereby making it a pretty bad punishment. So I guess an unfair suspension (not resulting in grounding at home) would have been a reward to me since I don't have to go to school!

Expulsion = like the death penalty to me since that would have meant being held back a grade, PERMANENTLY being a year older than the other kids and having that hurdle when trying to get a job or get into a good college - FOR LIFE

Although I personally tried to avoid getting detention, from what I here, it was usually not much of a punishment.

there was one teacher though, who I think would have made it torture for even an Aspie. She would make the student stare at the clock for the whole afterschool session. If she caught someone looking way from the clock, they would have to come in for another detention and look at the clock for an extra 10 minutes for each time they looked away.

I got a 1-day in school suspension/isolation/whatever you want to call it in 10th grade. I kind of enjoyed it. was a day off from the normal rif-raf, boring classes, etc. I finished my work rather quickly, then did my own creative, fun the rest of the time. I wouldn't of wanted to spend every day in isolation but it was nice for a day.

What did I do to get the suspension"? Told another kid to Shut the F up." I literally said F, not the actual word.

I've never had a detention, but I HATE being isolated! :(
