You don't have to drink vodka if you don't want to.

I actually wouldn't if I were you.

Find new friends.

Don't do it just to make friends or think you need to to keep friends. I think you're too young for hard liquor like that, even in small doses.

But if these people aren't nice to begin with, then this has the potential to be very disastrous for you. I'd be suspicious of their intent if I were you.

There's plenty of time to get drunk when you get older. Plenty of time of that's what you want. But starting things too young really messes up your development, and can make it hard to enjoy life without substances.

Tell them firmly, "no". If they keep pressuring you, it may be time to drift away from them and look for new friends.

Friends are nice to you. People who are not nice are NOT friends and may be enemies.
Drinking alcohol makes your brain work less well. Things seem okay that might not have been okay when you were sober. It's not a good plan to try something new and possibly dangerous with people who do not act like friends.

Firstly, friends aren't friends if they don't respect your decisions. Secondly, vodka is nasty; try scotch whisky instead.

I wouldn't recommend it. I started drinking at twelve. I would drink whatever I could get. I drank all the time when I was with friends because it helped me to socialize. It only got worse as I got older.

Nearly all of the times that I was sexually assaulted I was drunk. The last time I was so drunk that I could barely even move, even though I was (mostly) conscious.

I also have done a ton of really stupid things that could have gotten me killed while I was drinking.

Honestly, I think being 14-years-old means you should not be drinking vodka or any alcohol for that matter as it alcohol will destroy your brain cells. I also agree with the other suggestions that just because your friends want to do it, doesn't mean you should. I believe that's called peer pressure and peer pressure is not always a good thing. I also want to point out in the U.S., the legal drinking age is 21 so that's another reason that you shouldn't be doing it, that is if you live in the U.S.

True friends are nice to you and don't make fun of you. They aren't your friends if they're doing that.

Friends who pressure you to drink do not understand you & may not be real friends. My 1st girlfriend was 15 & after we broke up, she got drunk with friends & got soo drunk she had to go to the hospital & get her stomach pumped.

Alcohol isn't really that bad. Everyone says it is becuase if you're not responsible with it it will mess you up pretty good, but it's not like you'll instantly die and throw up and all that crap they say to keep kids from drinking. You have to be severely intoxicated to get to that point. Humans have survived off of alcohol for thousands of years since clean drinking water is actually only a relatively recent acclimation. 21 is not a magic age where your body suddenly becomes resistant to alcohol, nor is it a time where you're guaranteed to be "smart enough to handle it". It's just something that society said "it's socially ok for people this age and older to drink it." In fact there are some health benefits to drinking alcohol in moderation.

That said, if you don't want to, you don't have to. I'd recommend you don't becuase if you get caught the consequences can be severe (though millions of kids don't get caught and charged with underage drinking). They also don't sound like they're actually your friends, and I would advise getting new friends if that's possible. They may get "worse" while drunk, and at the same time loud if they'll be moving around and attracting attention increasing the chance that you'll be caught. You don't have to do something or not do something just becuase someone else says no. The simple fact that they will get drunk means they're not responsible for alcohol. I wouldn't trust myself around irresponsible people, let alone people who also make fun of me.

Outside of getting caught by the police, and possibly becoming mentally incapacitated if you're not responsible, chances are you'll be just fine. It's just a kind of drink. If you drink some and feel a little weird and you don't like it then stop. If you feel a little woozy, then stop. If you're too scared then don't drink or even go. If they get caught, they'll be the ones crying, not you.

Actually, I was about that age when I started drinking, but I had like one or two drinks maybe. If you feel uncomfortable, then don't do it. I know at 14 it feels like getting people to like you is a huge deal, but if you have to do things that make you uncomfortable for people to like, maybe its not good to hang around those people, especially when it involves any kind of drug. But you are 14, you arn't going to have your life ruined cause you did what every other 14 year old in the world does.

P.S. Drinking and driving is bad, watch out if you are going to drive somewhere to drink, if the driver has a few drinks, then it may not be a good idea to get back into the car with him/her. That may ruin your life, so its something to watch out for.

Old thread, but so what!

I first started drinking when I was 12, so the thread caught my attention. I didn't have any friends at the time, so my drinking consisted of sneaking liquor from my parents' cabinet and replacing it with water. Then, in high school, I upgraded to chugging bottles of cooking wine, which were sold as a cooking ingredient in the Italian aisle, and were not age-restricted. To deceive the cashiers, I'd also pick up spaghetti and pasta sauce when buying it; then after paying, I'd dump everything but the wine into a food pantry donation box. I kept using this method all the way until I turned 21 (the US drinking age). After turning 18, I supplemented the cooking wine with cigarettes, since the smoking age is 18.

One thing for sure: DO NOT drink with people you don't trust. OP, it sounds like you don't trust your alleged "friends" here, so find a new drinking group, if you must drink at all.

And while I'm sure I'll get eaten alive for saying this, but I don't think there should be a drinking age. Alcohol helped me get through REALLY difficult times when I was young and powerless. Also, some of the most disgusting, cruelest people I've met were non-drinkers, and very self-righteous about it to boot. Which is why I'm not being all preachy against alcohol. Except one thing: NEVER get into a car with a drunk driver.

Drinking about 25ml of the stuff isn't going to harm you at 14 years old, as long as it's genuine. We've all had a glass of our parents wine or our first beer at 13 and stuff.

Where did they get the product from? Is it legit? There's a lot of fake vodka and other spirits out there, so I question how they had access to it. If they stole it from a family member, then I'd say it's probably legit and it's fine.

Vodka tastes disgusting anyway. They'll all just spit it back out after a sip. Vodka will only taste half decent if you buy the expensive brands, which I don't think a 14 year old would have access to.

If you don't want to drink it, don't drink it and find new friends if they don't respect your choice.

If you do want to drink it, don't drink any more than that. 25ml is a shots worth.
