Walked in, waited, handed in my application, walked out
And it was most likely one of the most LEAST stressful things I have ever done. Seriously.
I had to wait in line because others were there. In front of me was a guy who I struck up a casual and very normal conversation with. After his issue with w/e they were dealing with was done, he left with a polite goodbye (and I returned it). Then I simply stepped up and smiled, handed the desk guy my application (with eye contact) and answered clearly any questions he had, as well as corrected a typo. He then entered the data, printed a receipt, said something like "congrats, your in" very nicely, and I took the receipt, thanked him and walked out.
And I think I was supposed to be a nervous wreck or something? It really was not stressful at all, was easy to engage in convo with people there, and a very pleasant experience over all.
Now, I wrote it in detail because I am rather confused. I added "with eye contact" on purpose. I have read that people with AS hate eye contact. Or is it the opposite? Regardless I don't mind it at all. I have heard that just going into a office by ones self with a line and people talking to you can drive an Aspie crazy. Yet I was calm.
Anyways, I am going to college now. I am curious as to other's experience with applying in person and how they felt.

It depends a lot on how I am feeling at any given time. If I have made several, similar stops in one day, I met grow less and less able to tolerate even those abbreviated contacts with others. I always have trouble standing in lines, because I feel sort of claustrophobic. And, if someone starts a random convo when I am already feeling overwhelmed, it can be daunting, because I can't get away or ignore them. Yet, OTOH, I have had days like the OP where felt very much able to deal, and was not traumatized in any way.

My college application process is more complex, I handed the form into reception casually without any problem, but I've now gotta have a interview. Everyone gets nervous with those, but I have a very high chance of getting into the college (because I already go to the school the college is a part of, so I get priority) and I'm sort of looking forward to it anyway
