very scared and anxious. I tried this 18 years ago. Lets see if a diagnosis, pills, and therapists get me through this time. Still I am scared of people and I cannot talk to them easily. Im scared theyll think im weird like in the past. at least im a curiosity being one of few full time 30+ students. Im hoping more about them though.

Most people mind their own business in college, you shouldn't have to worry about anyone thinking anything.

Focus on the material, ignore the people as far as possible - you'll do great! Luck & much success! :thumright:

There are plenty of ADULTS returning to colleges and universities in these current unstable economic times with so many people
having been laid off this past year and collecting unemployment. One is never too "old' to re-tool and re-train and improve your
employment skills. I am an adult returning to school and getting a degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Do your best in your school work, don't cut classes and ask the professor for help if you need it.

Best of luck to you!

When I went back to finish my degree I didn't socialize with the other students, and it wasn't weird. As a re-entry student people assumed I had a life <grin>, and school was just school.

I got adopted by an Iranian study group, though, and that was a lot of fun. They had a full range of language skills, so I would work through the problems with the ones that spoke more English, and then they would go through them again in Farsi. Being a different culture, nonverbal cue errors didn't seem weird, we were working on specific talks, and the range of content was narrowly constrained. After awhile I could follow the Farsi explanations and make corrections, without knowing any Farsi.

Exactly, the people who want to succeed usually worry about wanting to pass college and people who dwell on social conflicts and social issues while going to school usually wind up going to school forever. When I am at school, I usually am pretty quiet most of the time and just simply mind my own business.

I think you are going to find that there are going to be far more 30+, 40+ and 50+ students than you thought possible. Most of the students are there out of economic necessity and not social reasons.

Are you going to a community college or a university? I just started junior college, and there's a lot more adults than I expected. And some are older than I expected too (by older I mean closer to my grandparents age than my parents, haha). That's very exciting, good luck!
