I am currently in my first year at University for computer science, and it just hit me that maybe I don't want to do this for the rest of my life. I admit when I chose to go into this field I wasn't very confident in my choice but there wasn't anything else that I was interested in this much. I eventually decided that I wanted to design programs for video games, but now I'm not too sure. Maybe I am just overreacting because the work is much harder than high school, but if I really don't want to waste more time here if it isn't what I will end up doing. I just don't know what I should do at this point and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most people change their major in college.

After you get out of college & into the job market.. most end up working in a different field then they went to college for. Take the core classes your first 2 years that can fit into almost any major.

The main thing is earn a core education in something with transferable skills. Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or even Geology are all good fields.. Stay clear of the Arts. The main thing you need to show is that you are adaptable and have a good head on your shoulders.

Why steer clear of the Arts! Man, I love Human Geography, Sociology, Political Science, History and Anthropology! Why I can't do them?

You don't need to steer clear of the arts, or of the social sciences. They are perfectly capable of transferring into careers.

You don't need to know at 18 what you want to do for the rest of your life -- no one does. Focus on learning as much as you can.
