Hi,

I have attended Rockledge high in Rockledge Florida for 4yrs (I'm a senior). Today in Marketing we had 4 people and we began discussing each other. Always wanting to say something that could me respected, I told ask anyone if they knew about autism. My friend Patty said yes b/c her mother teaches a couple. Well I explained to them my disorder and got lots of feedback. I got the following:

Tell everyone who you talk to that you have AS. Let them know How you think and interact. Believe it or not this changes everyones view on you.

In addition to that, tell them that you are into a specific subject (mine is transpertation specificly avation).

Finally if you like to know everything, let them know you mean know harm what so ever when you get personal with people.

Leave people who dont respect you alone. Trust me, it may not sound so simple but it is. If you problems, tell a adult or mentor.

Well, were into our discussion when I notice that my teacher CB said I should be proud of myself. I take regular classes, interact with normal people, and act like one. Until now, nobody had a clue who I was. I'm proud of myself.

Well, CB advised the other people to stick up for me. Now I have 5 people that can back me up and support me. Its nice to have friends that will sit down and listen you.

I also learned I have few bad days, but very good days. I do my work and whats asked of me. I'm very honest. If you have any questions, send me a message.

That's great that you were able to get such good support from your friends and classmates. You may not realize it, but they sound like good friends to me. I'm glad I have a support network. I look forward to hearing how this works out for you, Hunterton! :D

well Alex it has worked out well. More people are intrested and actually say hi. Before I felt like a add in school. I tell everyone I have AS. I give them a sheet of paper that I carry around with me. Its a unique expeierence once they know who I am. Well, how does it work out for you? do people ignore you? When they do that to me, I go up and say I'm equal just like you gosh darnnet.
