What are 2 things you would tell a teacher that would help you learn, or 2 things teachers do that make it hard for you to learn?

1: the fact that you learned one way doesn't mean that's the best way for me (or anyone) to learn.
2: there's nothing wrong with giving your opinion as it relates to a subject, so long as you explain that it is your opinion and you are willing to discuss it.

there was nothing in my education that shut me down more than teachers who would give their opinion as if it came out of the textbook and refused to answer questions about it. the problem wasn't that they gave their opinions or even that they gave their opinions with authority. the problem was when they refused to explain why. i think too many teachers think their job is to train students to answer questions correctly and forget that their job is to answer students' questions.

waltur, I had a lot of that in school as well. I hated that the teachers could give their opinion, but we couldn't question it, or give our own. I had one great teacher that actually encouraged that my senior year, and I respected him so much for that. I think we get so much farther in life when we can question and examine the options rather than follow along as little sheep!

It bugs me when I haven't understood what I'm meant to do, and then the teacher does the work for me because I asked. Once I know what to do, I'm more than capable of doing the work myself.

gina- good point. I work with a student who asked a question to clarify some notes he took; and the teacher gave him notes that had already been done. He also was upset because he knew how to do it, just needed to make sure something was correct.
