Hi! I'm still very new to the forums (only been registered a few days) and have only made a few posts so far. Anyway, something I've been wondering about is whether I should tell my closest friends (there are 3 of them that I have in mind) that I have Aspergers. So far the only people who know are my parents and my brother (I think--it was my Mom who was going to explain it to him because I was very young at the time). I think over the years a few of my elementary school teachers may have been told as well (I was diagnosed at the age of 9 and am now 17).

On the one hand, I'd really like to have someone to talk to this about. I mean, my Mom's a great support when things are bad, but sometimes my friends can give a different perspective on things. On the other hand, would it really be that important. I mean, it would just be giving a name to traits they must surely know I have (we've been friends for a few years now and are in nearly all of the same classes, so needless to say we know each other really well).

The other thing is that it would just feel really nice to confide this in someone and I also feel like this would sort have bring the friendship to a new level.

I never really told my friends until someone mentioned another person in my school with it. They were talking about him and Asperger's and I started talking about it in very specific detail. They were confused on how I knew the specifics, so I told them I had it. It didn't change anything about our friendship, it's never come up since.

Yeah, it's hard for it to come up in conversation...
(It'd be awkward if I just brought it up out of nowhere.)
And I don't think it would really change anything.
So, I haven't told any of my friends either.

i dont think it would change anything.
the furthest i've ever gone is passing it off as 'abit odd' thats seems to do the trick.
if they like your personality they do and if they dont, they dont.. simple
