I've been in uni for the last seven years and it's killing me. I am trying to hang in there so I can get a good job but I'm also realizing that if uni is this damaging to me, I'm not going to be capable of working more than very part time.

I've been at university for 5 years and will soon finally graduate. It was way better in my first year when a lot of people like rock/metal music but now it's all about clubbing/cliques and I couldn't relate to any of the people here. also doesn't help that our student union has completely closed down.

I really can't stand it. Socialising for example, I cannot relate to any other people! And clubbing etc, a nightmare. However during the day I'm fine, cos then I can be nerdy :)

I started University in September and to be honest; I'm not a huge fan of it.

On the one hand, I can just sit on my own in lessons at the front, get my head down, work, then leave when the lecture is over.

But it's the social aspect; I've made one friend. I've joined a few societies but they just seem to be going clubbing and drinking every weekend, something which I won't do, and I'm not particularly good at integrating with new people.

Maybe next year will be better.

I go to a big university and I really like it. Some might complain that you're just a number, but large classes take off a lot of the social pressure to fit in. Of course there is some social interaction required, like in labs or smaller classes. If thats the case, I try and pair up with the nerdy, quiet ones. I don't feel as overwhelmed then. Just ignore all the silly greek stuff and parties. Go to class and go home. :)

I'm a second year student, planning to graduates in few more years going to a small Christian University of about a thousand are so students. ;P It's actually like a lot of fun, no partying (of the drinking kind) and the social events are more...errr...regulated if that's the right word. Really love it, everyone is pretty cool and nice and stuff and it seems we in the Humanities Department (Creative Writing, English, Lit, Linguistics, and Philosophy) are just a bunch of silly goof-balls. xD

I like university a fair amount. I would love university if it wasn't for the fact that I have extreme test anxiety and I do tests on a weekly basis.

I have been here for about a year and a half. I plan to be here for five years total because I am in the most difficult major in the whole university (computer engineering).

Socialization is not that great. I just do not know how to interact with people so I work on my own projects like my own website, robot, and math problems.

I can totally relate to that- I'm here to get a degree! I find lectures OK but seminars are intimidating, especially on my course coz we have to read stuff out every week. I'm also a long way from home which is annoying coz I'd just made two good friends at work and had to leave to come to uni :( and I miss it. I also hate the free time/lack of structure at uni- my course only has one 2 hour seminar a week so I'm taking a lot of extra modules from other departments. Are you in halls? I'm finding that kind of hard too, too many people all the time and constant noise, and the kitchen always seems to have a lot of people in it (there's 12 of us and it's a small space). I like the course though, and love having a 24 hour library :).

I am in the last year of my masters. Have been at uni for a while and I love it.

I don't socialize a great deal at uni but it seems to fit with my lifestyle.

What I did discover and this might not be of any use to you, is that I can only study my special subjects. Outside of that I have very little aptitude.

Same as me- my undergrad grades were all over the place because I did well in modules where I could write about my special interests (fairy tales, astronomy and Shakespeare) but did really badly in the other modules because I really didn't get them (Philosophy and Literature is a tough degree anyway, lol). I liked the exams where we had to analyze a section of a text because I'm OK at detailed analysis of small parts of texts but I found the theme-based questions really hard, and Philosophy went straight over my head! I'm doing a Master's in Creative Writing atm which is hard but OK coz I'm mainly writing fairy tales/fantasy. Would love to do a PhD in Folklore someday...

I'm in my first semester at a Uni after transferring from CC. I hate it. It's partly because I chose the lousiest major and have to choose something else next semester, which will delay graduation for another year or two. Seriously, CC had harder classes. Uni right now is overpriced bullsh!t to me.

I mostly hate the social scene. All these kids do to have fun is drink and go partying which imo is the most boring thing ever. I do fine in class socially though. I tried making friends and the ones outside of class (dorm people) are the most phony people you ever would meet. Gladly, I scheduled my sh_t classes to only be 3 days a week, actually spending one full day on campus before going home the following day after class.

I graduated from a big university in 3.5 years, and there were many pros and cons to that experience. For instance:
It was nice because I was in college and could go about my business as I pleased. I also learned alot socially by being around and observing people in many different social settings, parties, etc.

What sucked was that the social college experience bored me. Going to parties, getting drunk and high, and the endless small talk really bored me. I did it anyway, mostly to fit in but also to learn, as stated above. I had a hard time relating to people and often did not even bother trying to make serious friends, although I did come out with a couple good ones.

Mostly, I kept my nose to the grindstone, always went to class and participated, did my work, got my degrees, and moved forward in life.

I'm doing postgraduate study and it's awesome.

I don't see what clubbing or socialising have to do with academics. :? I just ignore everyone and go to the library or the computer labs.
