Last year I got to be in my schools talent show and did Stand-up comedy(I want to be a comedian/actor). A lot of people told me I wouldn't be able to do because I'm a spec ed kid but luckly there where a good bit who told me to go for it. My mom felt sick all day from nervousness, my grandmother("Nan") couldn't eat, and my grandfather("Bop") was just nervous.
But I was raring to go in fact I watched Bill Engvalls heres your sign live before we left for last minute observations. My friend and I where in that same show which boosted our confidents. I kept going over the routein in my head until it was my turn to go on.
When I first got on they shun a light on me that was so bright blue I couldn't see anyone not even my mom who was tapeing it in the front row. Then I was saying to myself "this isn't right I can barely see my own hand well better keep going" so as soon as I told my first joke and everyone started laughing it felt great to know I made them laugh. So about half way through the boy hosting the show thought I was done so I improvised by saying "Hold on I'm not done yet Skippy" everyone bursted out into histarics. In the end it went over great. The boy host("Skippy") said as soon as I left "that was "Stargirl" (thats my giving nickname) doing stand-up comedy and that isn't easy to do and keep people laughing but she did it". I even gave out autographs and got a lot of compliments I even ended up in the school paper for my act.
I showed a lot of people it doesn't matter what your limits are you can anything that people without disibliltys can do and don't let anyone tell you different.

So any of you get into a talent show too?

Dan Aykroyd has Asperger's and he is a very succesful (and very rich) comedian and actor. He was on Saturday Nigh Live and has starred in lots of movies! Don't let people discourage you from following your dreams!

Given the way I was treated in school, I wouldn't be caught dead performing at a talent show. The risk of them jeering and publicly making fun of me while I'm onstage was big. As a result, that would have made the whole school hate me, not just the actual bullies.

I was "the girl who didn't talk" at school and had no friends. I was in a couple of school productions but wouldn't have dared to audition for lead parts due to deep anxiety and feelings of worthlessness. I have always loved singing but couldn't perform in front of my schoolmates. Then a few years after I left school I entered a talent show and won (despite having a bad throat!) So I would advise anyone feeling worthless because of AS to give it a shot anyway. I am a lot more confident than I used to be (sure, I have my off days, but who doesn't?)
