I share a washroom with another person (washroom in between 2 rooms) and the other person forgot to unlock my door and he wasn't home. I broke the lock and now I need to pay like $80.00 to replace it. I told the person in charge of the building and she told me that she had the keys to every room and I didn't need to break the lock.

In a way, this doesn't seem fair since this wouldn't have happened if my housemate remembered to unlock the door, but then again, I was the one who decided to "get in the washroom as quick as I can at all costs".

PS it was a crappy lock. I broke it with my bare hands by twisting the door handle.

Replace it yourself. Even a high quality key lock handle only costs 40$.

The maintenance guy came in and I don't need to pay since the lock didn't need to be replaced. :D

UPDATE: Oh no!! 8O The lock is still broken! That maintenance guy didn't even know how to check if the lock was broken. Wow!! Hmm, I may tell the office at a later date just in case my housemate forgets to unlock the washroom again.

I eventually told the office, knowing that the person would get mad at me if I told her at the end of the term. The lock has been replaced and I don't know how much I'll need to pay yet.
