I'm not sure if this belongs in Work and Finding a Job, School and College Life or The Haven.

Well, it's getting ever closer to the end of my college course, and the pressure is getting heavier from people, on what I should do next. I cannot, I repeat, cannot do with any more college, no matter how many qualifications it will bring; it's not worth it.

The people there constantly swearing, smoking, talking about 'who they had sex with last night' and 'parties' has driven me insane enough for nearly 2 years. Argghhh!! ! Seriously, what the heck am I doing around these people? Some of them are alright, and I could say I'm sort of friends with them, but generally, blahhh...

I have to get out of this and move on. But I honestly have absolutely no clue what to do. My Mum would prefer it if I stayed in college, in case I end up doing nothing and getting incredibly depressed and suicidal at home. But I will be either way. Right now I'm sort of writing a children's fantasy novel, and I'm hoping I can finish it one day, publish it and make money from it. Hey, it's worth a shot :).

My interests are drawing, video games and animals. And is it shallow to say 'I don't want to do volunteer work, I want to earn money!'?

Anyways, adults, what did you go on to do after school / college? Especially people from the UK, with jobs being taken and whatnot, are they currently very hard to get?

It sounds like you are just at a school that isn't right for you. I've attended three colleges and they were all different socially.

One was in a rich area. The parking lot was filled with BMW's and Lexus' and the place smelled of perfume and cigarettes until they banned smoking, and then it just smelled like perfume from all the halter top, short short wearing girls. People didn't hang around the campus and there wasn't much of a student community. Another one was in a poorer area. The parking lot was full of late model cars. Sweatshirts seemed to be the most common clothing for the girls. People were a lot more involved in student groups there and the campus had a stronger sense of community.

Neither of those schools had much partying.

The third was a much larger school and was far more demographically mixed. I imagine there were parties and the things you speak of but we didn't see much of that in my part of the campus.

People were generally very mature and spent most of their time studying.

I agree. You might also try living at home and commuting to a school of possible. At least then you wouldn't have to live with these people.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention. It's not a college that you can live at, I live at home. :) And here we leave school at 16 so education isn't compulsory for me. Even if it gives me qualifications it's not worth it, since the extremely social side of it ruins it.

Well I do think you should try to find another college.....maybe one with less emphasis on socializing.........possibly you could even do correspondence college online......just make sure the college is accredited! I think the "open university" is legitimate. In the long run having a degree is worth it.............it will help you get a good job.....also even if you hate half of what you have to study...something you study/learn might be really interesting and you might really enjoy it.
You can definitely study something related to art or animals. Education has intrinsic value too (in my opinion). So.....I say......don't give up!
