Do you have support? How does it effect you?
I grew up with close to 24/7 support in the latter years of school. While I felt that it helped at the time, having someone else to help with writing, I'm now increasingly aware of the negatives. Being constantly protected like that lead me to grow up highly unsure of my capability, ridiculously shy and afraid to do or go anywhere alone. The latter problem I have managed to overcome, but I still feel myself constrained by my shyness on a day to day basis.
Besides the issue of always being protected, having support just became a crutch preventing me from solving my own problems. I can write perfectly well on a computer, but still had support to fix my awful spelling. However once I chose to ditch the support, I learned to correct my own spelling. Its still not prefect, but good enough in most cases, and I feel much freeer.
Do you/did you have support yourself, have you found it to have similar negative effects on yourself?
