I think pre-studying and skimming a variety of books is a good idea.
Now, as far as actual math classes, I have taken both
Calculus for engineering and science students
Calculus for non-science majors<---that one was harder!
Yes, you heard that correctly. The calculus for non-science major was harder in absolute terms, I think because it was a newer class, it was clumsy in some regards. The textbook, instead of just explaining things in a straightforward way, used kind of fare fetche analogies. And a little bit, both the book and the professor talked down to students, as if they were setting up a negative self-fulfilling prophecy. Plus, the plain old regular calculus for science and engineering, I guess out of being tried and true (or 50 some years of experience) has better pacing.
