I have an extremely bright suspected Aspie 17 year old that is just not succeeding in public school. I think he needs to go to online high school so he has more control over his schedule and to lessen the level of busy work and structure that happens n public school. Has anyone attended or had their child attend an online high school and were you satisfied with the results? What are good and bad experiences with various schools?

I am 23 years old and have just completed online high school courses in order to get prerequisites to enter university. I got much better marks doing the courses online than I did attending school even though I didn't take class for 6 years. I found that you could work at your own schedule and pace without solid deadlines. There is plenty of help available if you need it online too, even though I did most of it on my own. It was useful for me because I was working full-time throughout the time I was studying. Ultimately the online learning allowed me to reach my goal of going to university for engineering this fall.

When I was in high school I was very depressed and really isolated. I was really bright too but I didn't really apply myself. I really didn't care or see any purpose to what I was doing or to bother trying. The biggest difference for me between my time in public school and online school was that I wanted to do the online school and I was motivated.

If your son is like me he probably hates going to school and it maybe stressful for him just being there.

The school used was ILC if you want an example. It's only for Ontario students I think. It only costs $30 per course.

Thanks TheRealMe. I appreciate hearing about your experience. I am hoping my son does as well in it as you did. He says he will never set foot in his HS again. I think it's mostly the frustration for him. We're in the states so it will cost a little more but I think it will be worth it if he can do it.
