I can't help you when it comes to good colleges, but whatever you do, DON'T go to an Art Institute of (Insert state name here). I have heard numerous times that companies do not like to higher people who graduate from the Art Institutes, regardless of location. I've heard that the students come out with identical portfolios, so when employers look at them they don't stand out. They're just "cookie-cutter" Art Institute students.

Beyond that, I think that with an arts degree it's not so much important where you go as what you can fill your portfolio with. But again, this is just what I've heard. I'm not an arts student.

I don't know much about art schools either. I know UConn's school of Fine Arts has won several awards, but I can't really say much about it since I'm not an art major. However, UConn has an excellent AS Program, which you probably won't find at a dedicated art school. Let me know if you want more info about UConn. This forum is not the best way to contact me since I don't check it that frequently, but if you email me t [email protected] I will be happy to talk with you. The email listed in my profile is fine too, but I like to keep all UConn-related email at my UConn email address.

Mori_pastel is right that you want to stay away from any art institute.

Check the National Association of Schools of Art and Design to see which schools on it suit you. I wouldn't go to any art school that wasn't NASAD approved (and I didn't) because those schools have to meet certain criteria and are generally very good art schools.

However, not all NASAD schools are created equal. Make sure you tour a lot of schools and ask questions to find out which one is the best fit for you.

CalArts

I suggest the Pacific Northwest College of Art, PNCA for short.
