I have a BS in meteorology and mathematics and an MS in atmospheric science. If you're planning on getting an MS or PhD where you go really depends on a multitude of factors. If you get into a graduate program they usually pay full tuition plus a stipend for living. That's the good part. However, the majority of MS and PhD programs are competitive and openings for Research Assistantships and Teachers Assistantships vary from year to year and from school to school. The bottom line is you have to apply to more than one school and make a choice from the ones you get accepted based on where you want to move and where your particular interests lie in terms of research. The latter is EXTREMELY important if you are applying for an RA position. You don't want to get stuck with an advisor that isn't compatible with your interests or working style. I learned that lesson the hard way and got through my MS degree only after suffering a massive mental breakdown.

Anyways, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. You can PM me also if you want.

Thanks for the response! I am so fascinated by weather--it was one of my special interests as a child, and is renewing itself within me now. The only problem is, I realized it might be an impossibility since I do not have a physics degree (nor have I taken a physics class). Do you think that is essential to being successful (or even to be accepted) into a Meterology program. My university offers a diploma in meterology, but I also kind of like the idea of going for a Masters as it just seems like it has more prestige attached to it.

no matter what.. it would be very helpful before applying anywhere, that you remember to spell it:

meteorology

If you enjoy everything from watching clouds to tracking hurricanes, then maybe meteorology or climatology is the career for you.

Meteorologists, climatologists, and hydrologists can be found all over the world doing some very interesting things! They may study the ozone layer or air pollution, brief pilots at a busy airfield or take weather observations in Antarctica. They might analyze or develop numerical models, monitor rainfall and issue river stage warnings or fly in aircraft investigating hurricanes. Weather is world-wide and so are weather people! There are numerous areas in which a person interested and qualified in meteorology, hydrology, or the atmospheric sciences may find themselves working.

Meteorology is a big interest of mine, though I doubt I would get that physics degree.

Good luck, littlelily613 :)

That's a bit rude!....

I do know how to spell it--It's spelled correctly in the title. What you saw is called a typo.

I think I would absolutely love working in meteorology; however, I don't think I am ever going to get the math or physics skills to pursue it. I've pretty much let this idea die. Very sadly though!
