Hey guys and girls,

My first post - I'll introduce myself later.

I've been having problems, pretty much since high school, where I have been unable to start things that involve large amounts of writing: whether it is a speech, essay, or (nowadays) selection criteria. I am unable to word things properly as well, and it's tearing me apart.

I have tried and tried and tried. At first, I thought it was the education system that had screwed me over, but then I realised that it's just me.

Is there anyone else who struggles to get their heads working to write something? Anyone struggling to put pen to paper? If you have overcome it, how did you do it?

Thank you

Do you have to write for school, or as part of your job?

I never felt particularly comfortable writing either, so I prefer to express myself visually whenever I have the option.

I used to have to. But I'm at uni at the moment, and as I've started doing a Bachelor of IT/Bachelor of Commerce this year, I don't have those essays that are worth thousands of words. However, I still have to write pages here and there, and it still overwhelms me.

Sort of. While I've been working in retail for the past four years, I want to get into the IT industry, and, as I live in Canberra, which is the capital of Australia, the main white collar employer is the Australian government. Of course, all government departments ask for a selection criteria, often asking for 1-2 pages on a question, asking for examples and all sorts of things. If I'm like this all the time, then I'm stuck as a career employee where I work now, even with a relatively useful degree.

Strangely enough, I'm OK writing in forums for some reason.

That makes sense. When there's no specific target audience, no particular objectives, and essentially no consequences (except for trolls saying stupid things), it relieves a lot of pressure and allows us to speak our minds easier.
