Did anyone struggle in their first term with the social side/coping with change?

I coped with the social side by isolating myself. I do not regret it. To this day when I see a group of college freshmen it re-affirms my belief that they are the most obnoxious demographic in the whole world.
As seniors, my crew take revenge by assertively yelling "FRESHMEN" and throwing beer cans at massive groups of freshies getting ready go out and drink.

Yes. I've just finished my first term and when I go back I'll still be getting used to the social side of things. I have gotten used to living independently though (which I really like).

This exactly.

Yeah, it was a pretty intense transition, but it got better.

It was okay, different from HS. You could go days at a time doing nothing but the motions through classes, then suddenly get a massive assignment dumped on you and panic. A lot of students struggle, not just AS positive ones, for that reason (the work you have first semester is often no harder than in HS).

I received a 3.2 first semester, or something. Nothing special, but nothing terrible either.

Yes, because after working and earning money for a few years, it was hard to get back into 'student mode', and also moving away from the area I grew up in.

Sorry if it was a bit of an obvious question, everyone else around me is having an amazing time, making friends every day, etc etc...

fraac, how come you dropped out?

And I love living independently too! Just being free :D

Totally. I had no problems with the academic workload whatsoever. High school was harder, since we had homework for every class every night, not every other night like in college.

I had a sh***y GPA my first year in college. Though to be fair I cared more about partying then grades. I got high and drunk 4-5 nights a week. I've cut that back to 1-2 times a week and my GPA is much better. My issue wasn't the workload it was just partying too much. Which is a problem for a lot of college students their first year.

I almost dropped out in my first term, but with good support from home I stuck it out. I hated the transition to living alone, the exposure to so many people, the different teaching/learning structure, among other things. I hated all the socializing that everyone else was so excited about.
I eventually found some close friends outside of my major that I could hang out with occassionally; gamers/stoners are good friends if you want to avoid intense situations like clubs or busy shopping centers.
For me school got a lot better after the first term because I already knew the flow of the university semester, i.e. what was happening when. I also never moved in with anyone from my major so that I could isolate myself from school when I needed to, in my first term I was in residence with several classmates, so school was hard to get away from.

I must say I like the stoners and the gamers a lot, they seem much cooler with people being different :)
