In our video editing class this term, we have a big project which we do progressively. And in teams as well, with different jobs. The assignment was to take a movie, re-film, re-composite, re-edit, re blah blah blah.... Of course, with our own creativity!

I was eyeing on taking the matte painting job since I like to use a program called "Vue" which creates 3D landscapes & scene, perfect for matte painters who can't "paint". Sadly, the movie my group chose doesn't at all require any matte painting since all the scene we were to use are avaliable in the first place, basically, leaving me with no other task that I can really do other than video editing in which 2 other members have already taken up.

As an alternative, I chose to do some of the VFX using after effects. Though I knew some of the basics in After Effects, I ran into many problems, like the green screen footage was a total blow job(one light shined on the green screen making color keying a nightmare!), AE kept hanging up and etc... If I was to master After Effects, it would mean a good 5-6 years for the least, it's not a program you can nail overnight...

I miss using Vue and no one else in my class knows this program. Vue allowed Avatar, Indiana Jones and other big-money movies to be realistic as it is. I have talked to my friends about my niche skills, useless for this assignment. Like After Effects, there were times Vue crashed, but nevertheless, I always found myself smiling and impatiently waiting for the end result. I'm going to explore After Effects more, but not as satisfying as Vue is. Vue is my friend in a way...

Is there anyway to get around this besides just putting it though? (Yes, I AM rendering some of the effects as I am tying this)
