I don't feel comfortable when my backpack feels light. My backpack HAS to be at least 8 pounds... if it's lighter it feels like I didn't bring enough to class.

I gave my car away three years ago and live out of a backpack basically. I try to keep my pack at about 15-20% of my body weight...otherwise I feel like I am missing something I need. Kind of silly but the weight is comforting!

I always carry "stuff" with me to work. It's like a security blanket....and there's always "stuff" in my pockets.

When I was in high school, I carried all of my school books with me to every class. (It was heavy).

Sometimes when people comment to me these days about why I carry so much stuff all the time, I tell them I was a pack-animal in another life. This usually makes them half-smile and sends them off on their merry way.

I usually carry mine on one shoulder, so it has to be heavy enough not to slip off easily. Also, carrying a bit of weight around all day is a good thing, since I kind of need the exercise.

@MynameisAnna: You can probably sew up the bottom of it to keep it around longer.

Basically the more nervous I am about going somewhere/doing something, the more stuff I take in my backpack. It feels weird when it's very very light!

My backpack ALWAYS has to be heavy. It feels better that way. I think it has to do with having pressure, like how some people need a stack of blankets or a weighted blanket to sleep.

i always have my (hand sewn by me ) back pack with at least 10 pounds i think it falls under deep pressure for me and that heavy feeling is relaxing when im among many people (as is often the case in montreal transit)

I'm the exact opposite. I purposefully bought a light, techie-oriented backpack (www.booqbags.com) so that I would have a LIGHT load in college. I usually only carry around my laptop/charger (all my books are ebooks and I type all my notes), a few writing utensils, and one light folder for papers. I never like to carry much of anything except myself. =P
