This is my school's ultra-strict dress code:

1. Pants must be fitted and worn at the waist. The pants must be at least knee length and not long enough to drag on the floor.

2. Skirts must be at least knee length and slits are not to extend above the knee. Kick pleats are acceptable. Skirts must not drag on the floor.

3. Shirts and tops must have sleeves and cover the shoulders. They must be long enough to be tucked-in. Shirts and tops not tucked-in must remain below the waist line at all times. In addition, all shirts longer than mid-thigh must be tucked-in. No exposed cleavage, back, or midriff will be allowed. Shirts promoting the township's community organizations are encouraged.

4. Dresses must comply with skirt/top rules.

5. Shoes must be worn at all times.

6. All jackets, coats, windbreakers, hat/head covering, and gloves must be placed in the student's locker upon arrival to school.

7. The following are never acceptable for students to wear at school: shorts (see guidelines for pants), wraparound skirts, form fitting clothes, sheer/see through fabrics, pajamas(leisure wear), breakaway pants, spandex, clothing with holes, rips, tears or with patches, wallet chains or pocket chains, picks/combs, sunglasses, any item that could cause harm to self, others or school property, promotes drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, or any illegal substance, depicts violence, sexual innuendoes, racial/religious slurs or is gang related.

And believe it or not, I got in-school suspension for a day because my skirt was one inch too short! I can't even wear half of my clothes because of this stupid dress code. But now that I'm doing homeschooling after school (not being school hours and all), I can get away with wearing whatever I want! So what's your school's dress code?

Actually, I believe that that's a pretty good dress code. I see nothing wrong with it, nor do I personally believe that it's too strict. It is more-so than average though, yes. Then again, I don't see that as a bad thing either.

My public high school was incredibly small. A teeny school in an ancient building in the deep south. We were allowed to wear almost anything except shirts or symbols which promoted any religion other than Christianity. (I'm Jewish, believe it or not.) No shirts or symbols which depreciated Christianity. Other than that, anything was basically accepted. With the deadly-hot temperatures during most of the year, and our school's lack of an effective air conditioning, the relaxed dress code was fairly understandable. In the winter, coats were often worn in class which also had no means of heating.

Schools here in Finland don´t have dress codes at all. :P

I don´t think your dress code is that bad Lightning88. The only one I couldn´t understand was this part:

Quote:
wallet chains or pocket chains, picks/combs

What´s up with that?

If it doesn't violate local obscenity laws you can wear it/not wear it.

I know dress codes dont make much sense but they serve a good function. They teach kids to live in a facist state. They help you modify your individual tastes so that some day you can aspire to have a job as a clone in a corporation of clones. This kind of learning is crucial in you future success. You need to learn to conform to absurd rules made by people whom you do not respect so that as an adult it will be less painful for you to work 80 hours a week at a salaried position without a pension, job securitiy,or affordable medical benifits.Without these kind of arbitrary rules you may end up being the kind of person who believes you have value and rights as an individual. This is likely to lead you to create unions and organizations to protect your "rights" and that could cause the collapse of a "free economy=corporations can treat you as if they own you if they get you a pay check".

Learning this invaluable lesson will prevent you from being outraged as an adult, when your manager gives you instructions to do something that is illogical and then screams at you when their instructions fail to have the desired results and actually cause the company to lose money.Having been forced to have your skirt length measured has allowed you to turn a blind eye when you manager tells you you MUST wear a belt if your pants were designed with belt loops.(Just imagine how sad those belt loops would feel if they were not filled with a belt!! !!It will make them feel useless,as if they have no real function....dont argue with your manager that belt loops are not sentient being who possess feelings....you are likely to be fired for such logical aggression).

Several of these dress code rules are also designed to prevent you from communicating your affiliation with a specific group. These group affiliations contradict the school(soon to be work)goal of having you only belong(owned)by them. You shouldnt quibble over the little detail that at least at a job you are being paid to conform but at school your parents and neighbors(through taxes)are paying the school...they still own you and society pays them a lot of taxes to teach you these important lessons in conformity.

The dress codes involving see through clothing, short shorts or skirts is because adults think you are really animals incapable of controlling your hormones and want to desexualize you....for your own good, everyone knows teens have no ability to controll their own over sexed behavior, also maybe to decrease the sexual abuse of students by teachers....expensive law suits. Also,if you show your tempting young flesh, the teachers might have to design a more interesting lesson plan to compete for attention.

You should never wear a t-shirt that has a message about using beer or tobacco products....thats the job of corporations advertising on primetime TV advertising to convince you to use their products. However, feel free to wear clothing with the brand names plastered all over it....that only helps teach kids to be good consumer clones...." Nike,Addidas, etc"

I went to both public and private schools, and I have to say that I actually enjoyed my private school a lot better than public school, and the uniforms helped. I tend to wear my own "uniform" anyway, and the only thing I hated about private school was having to wear a skirt every Friday.

I guess I just don't care about clothes, and enjoyed being able to wear the same thing every day with social impunity---no one could make fun of you, as they all had to wear the same thing, too. Granted, there was leeway in the choice of uniforms to wear Monday-Thursday. You could wear kahki pants or skirts or shorts that weren't above the knee. You could wear a white button down shirt and tie or a blue, white, or red polo shirt. You could wear closed-toed shoes with white athletic socks or black or brown dress shoes with white dress socks or tights or knee-high socks. Your hair had to be done neatly, and boys couldn't wear their hair down to their shoulders---it had to be neatly trimmed. Girls had to have their hair tied back or have it cut short.

The only other dress code I ever had enforced at public school was "no hats in the building." Pretty much your dress code sounds like common sense. Why are you so upset about it?

Pretty slack dress code for my school. Just don't wear anything offensive, and you can wear what you like. This may explain the boom that we have in the Goth and Emo stereotypes at my school. We also have a guy about 17 who grew a beard!

When I went to the Catholic high school, it was worse. All pants had to be full-length (meaning down to the ankles but not dragging on the floor) and all shirts had to have collars. You could wear a sweater over a shirt with a collar. Also, all shirts had to be tucked in.

Public highschool - they just cared that you showed up.

i go to a catholic school so we are required to wear the a mandatory skirt and school shirt. we may only wear a school jacket, sweater, or fleece. we have a choice between two types of black shoes that we may wear smf we have to wear a specific white sock with our school logo embroidered on it.

the boys have to wear pants, school shirt, black socks, their hair must not touch their shoulders, black shoes ect...

we can't wear any bracelets that support any type of cause or symbolize something. we can't wear bracelets period actually.

can't wait for college!

Back in my day we didn't have one - except as far as concealed weapons went. I knew a lot of guys who wore bucknives to school.

My dress code is a joke. There IS a dress code, but it is seldom enforced. I often see girls with Décolletages and guys who wear their pants at their knees to where you see their underwear. I also see shirts that advertise beer (BTW, clothes that advertise or promote tobacco, alcohol, and any form of drug abuse is against dress code, apparently.).

The only rule that's really enforced is the no-hat rule. You can come to the school in a tube top and mini skirt, but if you wear a hat, your ass is sent to the Principal's office. I friggin' hate that skewed enforcement.

Ouch, Lightning88. That's harsh. 8O

Our school dress code is pointless. They enforce it with people they don't like - that is, if you're not wearing pink or on the cheerleading squad, they might take the time to stop and yell at you - but otherwise it's non-existant. The offical dress code is:

1.) Thou shalt not wear anything with profane langauge, sexuality, or beer advertisments on it. (Status: not enforced. One particularly lovely t-shirt that has someone flipping the bird and reads "Suck this, Ann Arbor" is completely ignored.)

2.) Thou shalt not wear skirts that do not pass the fingertip rule. (That is, if you put your hands flat by your sides and your skirt is shorter than your fingertips, it is too short. Which is interesting, because I know some people who have very short arms and fingers, and some which have long arms and long fingers. It's different for every person.)

3.) Thou shalt not wear halter tops, spaghetti straps, or tank tops with sleeves less than half an inch long. (Also not enforced.)

4.) Thou shalt not wear bandannas, because bandannas are a gang symbol. (Seriously, this is a little, tiny, rich village. Not even a town. We don't have gangs. We don't even have a prision holding cell.)

5.) Thou shalt not wear hats. Hats are rude and teachers can't see over your head. (This is semi-enforced, interestingly enough. Thou can wear hoodies, however, with the hoods up. This is apparantly not rude.)

6.) Thou shalt not wear headbands. Because headbands are...something. (I have no idea why.)

7.) Thou shalt not wear shirts that show off thy navel. (Thankfully no one seems to violate this one. We have icy cold AC all year long, which is probably why.)

8.) Thou shalt not show off thy underwear. (Meaning no baggy pants at your knees. This one is also not enforced, which stinks because it's also one of the most broken.)

^That's exactly how mine is except we don't have AC (this city is poor as s**t) so all the fat redneck people walk around in tanktops or halter tops. It's disgusting. There are also tons of kids who wear beer/drug related shirts and noone cares. Last week I saw someone in a shirt with a picture of Jesus Christ smoking a joint on the front. Noone even said anything. I was like wtf.
