Family members interfering with studying
Has anyone else had family members interfere with the way they study? For example, I had good grades throughout college and the first half of medical school, and I didn't have anyone to supervise me or tell me how to study, but when I came home to continue the second half of medical school, everyone in my family had an opinion about what I should do to prepare for my exams, and kept trying to force me to go along with their ideas of what was best, even if it wasn't helpful at all. I had some relatives who kept trying to push me to go out and look for study partners because they said they didn't like the idea of me spending too much time on my own while I studied. I told them that I had already tried looking for study partners and it didn't work out well because the students I tried studying with became easily distracted by other things. My family still kept pushing me to look for partners or groups to study with just because they didn't like the idea of letting me study alone. Even when it became obvious from my grades that I was doing better when they left me alone and let me study the way I needed to, they kept on interfering anyway. They would keep yelling at me about how I needed to go out and look for study partners because it would make them feel better than thinking about me spending lots of time in the library by myself. They would tell me to use study methods I had already tried and didn't find helpful, such as underlining every single word in a textbook with a yellow highlighter, and insist that I had to do things a certain way just because they heard that their friends' kids used this or that study method. I even had an aunt (who is not a doctor) yell at me and order me to do things that were completely irrelevant to my board exams for medical school, just because she thought they sounded helpful, and even the rest of the family admitted she didn't know what she was talking about. How do you deal with family members who keep trying to interfere with the way you study, and don't even seem to care about which methods get good results, as long as you go through the motions of things that sound pleasing to them?
