I think the idea of having class in a bar is lovely, as long as you're honestly not trying to get anything done.
But my professor actually held class - real class, with discussion and everything, in a bar tonight.
Meanwhile the bar was full of loud people, the music was blaring, and there was a basketball game on all the televisions, so people were yelling about that, too.

This resulted in some serious sensory overload on my part - not to mention I was on the verge on a meltdown, which I'd rather not do in class, no matter where it's being held.

Unfortunately, this also happened to be our final class of the semester - the one in which we wrap everything up and discuss what we've been learning, which I was really looking forward to 'cause I am a geek. :)

Needless to say, tonight's discussion was a complete letdown for me.

Plus I ended up "coming out" to one of my classmates because she was asking me if I was okay, and I was too far gone to be able to speak clearly or without crying, so I just wrote a quick note: "I have High Functioning Autism and right now I'm in complete sensory overload."
I didn't even think about it, but looking back, I wish I hadn't done it. Oh well.

I wonder why did the professor had a class discussion in a BAR, where there are drunkies left and right with no class in the first place.

I feel bad for you, I hate being in noisy, crowed places as well. I mean, I can handle it as long as I'm in a good mood. However, if I'm in a bad mood, I get very uncomfortable. Why did your teacher have a class in a bar in the first place? Seems like an odd place to teach a lesson...

Good place to rendezvous with friends? Yes. A place for classroom discussions? Not so much.

The professor is new, she's used to European pubs (in which, I imagine, one might be able to hear oneself speak), and she thought it would be a good idea for our final class.

During my last grad program, my advisor and I used to have our advising meetings at the nearby bar, and it was great. We'd grab some food, a couple of beers, and take care of business (he was also used to European pubs). But it was just the two of us, during the day, which meant the bar wasn't packed and loud.
