I’ve realized that the biggest conflict in my life for the past 3 years has come from suppressing my obsession with military history in favor of finding a degree that will be more financially beneficial. I am afraid if I follow my interest I won't make enough money and I am afraid if I don’t, I’ll end up miserable. I don’t want to suppress it anymore. I feel like I’ve been attempting to distract myself with side interests like journalism and social science. But I feel like just been avoiding who I am. I'm sorry my first post is so obnoxiously complicated.

Get a good paying job, and you can afford all the military history you can study :) Works for me, anyway. And don't forget the old saying that when your hobby becomes your job, it's time to get a new hobby.

Military history? That is not a bad obsession! My room is like a library. Full with books about one of biggest military operations in WW2. Why don't you start a study history?

Get a degree in military history and become an officer in the armed forces.

I feel similarly. I am insanely passionate about philosophy and it's one of my majors. The problem is, no one wants to employ a philosophy major. There aren't many jobs in philosophy.

I'm also majoring in history, which is quite a bit better.

I probably won't end up making money from my biggest passions, but that's alright. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a career path that you like, even if you're not hugely passionate about it.

A lot of universities offer graduate diploma programs-where you can get a postgraduate degree in a certain field after doing any university degree. For example, you could do a degree in military history, then do a postgraduate diploma in something else like teaching.
