Does anyone else have a problem concentrating in class?
I have always been told that i am 'bright', but i never understand half o the work. I have been put in high sets for my GCSE's but so far, i have only understood one topic in maths, ran out of time in an English exam which counts for 20% of my grade, and above all, i can not concentrate in any of my subjects.

For example: In English, i knew i hadn't done well in my exam so far because i didn't understand either of the questions. I had 1 hour left for the final part, but still sat there for twenty minutes not doing anything.

another thing i don't understand is that in my report i keep getting high grades like A's and passes, but i get a lot of low marks in my tests and hardly ever get my work done. :wall:

I have trouble focusing inb class. Sometimes I just throw everything I have into it to stay engaged, it helps when we follow the instructor through problems. Either way, I put in more time previewing the material and reviewing it. There's this guy who is always asking for help, so I help him through and it helps me review everything at the same time. If you're using different appreaches to get the material, it could explain why you get an A even when you drop the ball during the lectures. I personally think that most people tune out after 2-3 hours of lecture.

I can't concentrate in class at all. Tutorials are usually spent doodling and not doing anything at all because I'm still too confused. I blank out in lectures if I can't stand the lecturer (which is almost everyone).

For one of my exams, our paper was split into 1.5h blocks (6h total) and even though that did help a little, I still blanked out for most of the paper. Did so miserably even though it was my best subject.

And yes, I've done that too in an English exam. Does your inability to understand the question come from being distracted? Like pens clicking or the sound of the teachers' shoes?

Yep, everything distracts me... even silence.

Can you arrange for extra time on the exam and a quiet room? You can also request an oral exam - just thoughts.

I am using a tape recorder in class this year for accommodation.

Do you find fiddling with something in your hands helpful to concentrate? I do. Or maybe to try some other tricks like reading with a ruler or turning you answers into a story in your head?

Dunno. It's not fun when you cannot "anchor" your attention - I hear you.

I have the same issue, but I'm not considered "bright". At least, not in every subject. There are subjects in which I can get high grades without studying much, and others in which I struggle.

If I fidget, I can superfocus. If Im looking at the lecturer and sitting still, I can't really concentrate or process anything. I need a mechanical pencil and mars eraser(in its packaging) to take apart and mess with the entire time. Took me a while to figure this out.
