University Blues
I started on a business program but near the end of I got bored and went to switch to an it bachelors. Today my financial counselor said I would not have enough financial aid to finish it if I switched so I'm stuck there cuz if I finish I can move up to the masters program and take what I like. Still it sucks I was looking forward to taking information management (databases).
Sucks. Can your business department help place you in an internship or coop that would build experience while helping pay the bills? In addition to those two birds, it would also bring money into the university that they wouldn't otherwise get.
On the other hand, business degrees are a dime a dozen in the real world. They're SUPPOSED to be supplemental degrees. If you have experience or expertise in a certain industry or field, you get a business degree to supplement that expertise. By themselves, they are practically worthless.
So maybe another option would be to look for a bachelors program that combines your business interest with some technical experience. Dual major with Management and Information Systems or something, for instance. That's not exactly a firecracker, but it's better than a plain jane business degree.
Worst case, walk out into the real world for a couple years, learn whatever you want to learn on your own, develop some personal projects that demonstrate your skill and passion, get an entry level position in the field to build experience, expertise, and a bankroll, and then go back and finish your business degree. THAT would be a firecracker if you can pull it off.
Life's tough, and it takes more than a piece of paper to get where you want to go. Focus your vision, work hard toward your goal, and openly seek and explore lateral opportunities.
