T or F: I have trouble with Persuasive Essays and Speeches

Persuasion skills are a form of social skills, which Aspies don't have or have impaired social skills. I assume other Aspies or people on the spectrum would have difficulty in persuasive essay's or persuasive speeches like me.

True or False: You find persuasive essays and/or persuasive speeches difficult?

I can persuade people with logic.
If it's a task where I'm meant to appeal to their emotions, I'm screwed.

It depends on how one defines "persuasive speech."

I was always good at analytical observation and critique. And I never had much trouble openly speaking about it.

But I was never good with detractors who resort to ad hominem attack and other emotional appeals from an audience to win an argument. And I'm not a salesmen, or a preacher, or a politician who can convincingly tell the people what they want to hear, even if it's bunk.

Pretty much this. I'm in a class right now where we're graded almost 100% on how emotionally appealing and captivating our presentations are. I'm totally screwed lol (and I don't say that very often about academics!).

I'm very, very good. On two separate occasions, teachers have suggested that I publish.

I generally appeal to logic, sourcing heavily (One paper, we were supposed to present 3 supporting sources, I brought 12), but I also push emotional and moral buttons. Basically my approach is to make someone feel threatened by whatever I'm attacking, logically present a solution, and then describe why my position is the morally right one.

Like the poster above said, if I can persaude people with logic, I'm fine. Otherwise, I'm generally screwed. It works both ways: I can only be persuaded by logic, so any persuasion based on emotion leaves me dumbfounded. As such, if I don't even understand pathos arguments, I'm going to be screwed if asked to use them.

I don't like persuading with emotions. I also don't like it when people try to persuade me with emotions.

Only through pathos. I'm fine if I have to appeal using logic. But if I'm required to use some sappy anecdote or the like, I'm screwed.

I've always done well with those types of assignments because everybody has a right to my opinion.

I'm not very good at persuading people through speech, especially in arguments cause the stress makes it hard for me to think. This can suck when I disagree with someone who's more persuasive making me feel like I've come out on the worse end of the argument.
