Degree in communication-public relations. good or bad?
I was thinking about starting on this degree program, I think it is a flexible degree that could land me a job in some type of disablity advocy. I have a physical disablity as well as probable aspergers. But now that I'm thinking I'm about to be diagnosed with aspergers the degreee in communcations sounds like a joke. Although I have been "acting" most of my life pretending to be neurotypical so maybe not? I'm not sure if I should try this degree or one in criminology, which is an intense interest of mine, there just isnt much you can do with that degree.
If it's what you really want to do, then go for it!
I'm currently a junior in a speech-language pathology program. I'm not diagnosed with AS, but friends and professors are starting to suspect that something's up. My prosody (vocal intonation) is odd and my pragmatics (social skills) are odd as well (among other things!).
Somewhat ironically, I am interested in working with children who have autism (although I am leaning more toward the severe end of the spectrum). That means I may have to teach pragmatics and prosody, which I am learning myself!
But seriously, do it if that's what you want! You will find a way to make it work!
I would go for the degree in communications/public relations. If you are talented and hardworking you will do fine. If/when I go back to finish a degree, it would probably be communications. Good luck to you.
