I always have immense difficulty doing my homework. Part of it is because I get distracted, and part of it is because I hate doing it. Often, when I get home, instead of doing my homework, I'll just think about my special interests for hours and hours, to the point that it resembles OCD (which I'm clinically diagnosed with). At that point I don't even want to think about them anymore, my brain feels like a broken record, and the thoughts are only making me more anxious. But then it's so hard to stop! And when I finally do start my homework (sometimes at midnight or later), I get antsy and have to take a break every few minutes. The weird thing is that there are days where I'll do my homework really quickly, but they are increasingly rare. Do you have the same problem? What are some of your tips for coping?

I say try to sort out a plan in your head? Just make sure you have a CLEAR understanding of the steps. If you stop to think what you're supposed to do next, that ends up leading to another 'break'.

Get as MUCH clarification as you can.

Maybe pay attention to your circadian clock and what are your up energy periods. Some people are morning larks (even if they wake up relatively late) whereas other people are night owls.

So for example, if you're a morning lark, maybe just 20 minutes during a busy morning before you leave. And then maybe a little bit before your first period class, with the mindset that you're a busy politician and are willing to socialize along the way but just don't have that much time.

Speaking personally, I get a lot done during my high energy periods.

It seems you have this thing called procrastination which many students do (including me) - what I find helps is to break the task down into smaller, more manageable bits and complete it one step at a time. This way I don't get overwhelmed and am more likely to start. If you're having problems because the work is too difficult, try reading some more material on it beforehand or ask a classmate/the teacher to help you.
