What kinds of subjects are you trying to study?

Tim

re: thread title... amen, man.
Throughout my schooling this was a common theme. Science? Aced it. English, mostly aced it. Math? Flunked it. Photojournalism? Aced it. Algebra? Flunked it. Geography? Aced.
If I was uninterested in a subject, it didn't matter how hard I tried or how much I forced myself, I just could not retain the info.

I had trouble paying attention in classes I do like. The class usually ends up going too slow for my liking and I'll end up spacing out for months. My grades will slip, then I'll play catch up near the end of the term and end up with a B'ish GPA.

You and me both. I think this is common for people with AS. We just don't give a s**t sometimes :D

edit: I read in your profile that you have a family member with AS--- so I take it you do not have AS/been diagnosed with AS?

I understand that. I do NOT study subjects I dont like I see no point in it. I wanted to take art classes at a local college and the special ed resource counselor wanted to plan my classes for me.

i am not taking math and english and useless classes i have no pupose for. I only want art classes. I dont even want a degree. just art...

I did take a photo class but I was off in my own world with the assignments. I photographed what I wanted to photograph, and still got a B in the class. But the last semester they wouldnt let me take any fun classes unless I met with a counselor. I was already registered for the resource center because of my hearing. so I just walked out and am not going back.

I used to have problems studying subjects I have no interest in (yet I still got very high marks in English and history - I'm still not sure why), but I have realized that sometimes, you have to do what you need to do, whether you like it or not.

I am the same way. I finally got through a lot of my basic classes (boring!! !) and now that I am into mostly classes about my major (sign language interpreting) I can focus better and feel more motivated. I just keep hoping my mind doesn't do a flip flop on me and mess everything up before I can graduate.
