So I just found out that I'm actually studying a BDES. When I applied, it was a BA. I'm not really fussed by it (probably my own willfull ignorance) and the course is amazing but I am curious about what you guys think. I was kind of worried that no employer would take me seriously because I'm a bachelor of art, so is it better to be a bachelor of design? Does that give me more street cred or is it just as lame? Not that I'm bashing BA's or anything. I just want to justify the fact that I do drawings for a living, heheh.

Okay, in all seriousness, what is your opinion?

They have a new education level now.

You should try for it.

Its halfway between a bachelor's degree, and a master's degree.

Its called a "bastard's degree"!

BDES may stand for:

  • Bachelor of Design (an academic degree)
  • Bachelor's Degree Examination for Self-Education (an alternative to getting a Bachelor's Degree)
  • Bachelor's Degree of Educational Science (a degree toward a career in teaching)
Which do you mean?

If possible, you want to start networking well before graduating, talking to people hiring for different kinds if jobs, and also if you can talking with people who are one or two years ahead of you and who are now working in the field.

It's a bachelor of design. I'm in an art college. Not that is matters, anyway - I'm just curious about people's perceptions of different kinds of degrees. I often hear people say that being a bachelor of art is pretty much getting a degree in doing basically nothing. This, of course, is nonsense, but I do have a huge ego to protect, heheh.

So yes, naturalplastic, I think I will take a BAstards degree :P
