I feel like I'm working towards nothing.

I'm currently in a community college and working toward a degree in BADM and a transfer to a uni. The problem is that I have very little interest in the field I chose. After 5 years of isolation in my parents house, I was forced to choose something or I was in danger of being homeless. Being uninterested in nearly everything except my hobbies (gaming, reading), I had few options except to choose an unrelated program in my community college. I chose this path because I've had a lot of trouble finding a steady job and I needed some source of income to survive (financial aid/grants).

I just feel like it's delaying the inevitable (homelessness) and that I won't be able to hold a job. Common jobs these days require a very social person and I haven't been able to develop socially since I started going to college.

What is BADM?

I would guess that you're in Canada. Besides, gaming and reading, what are you interested in? What do you like to read?

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's a problem with many young people--difficulty in finding out what they want to do in life. Maybe you could join a club at your school which highlights your interests.

Don't give up. You're young. Lots of people go through what you're going through.

I'm sure there will be others coming around to give more, and perhaps better, advice than mine.

In the meantime, don't give up.

Business Administration. I'm not going to give up, I've worked hard to create a future for myself. I'm just not optimistic about it. I dunno about clubs. I've never been part of one. Maybe something worth looking into. Thanks.

BADM is a nice general area that can set you up to do any number of different things. I have both a bachelors and masters in badm, and it has served me well for many years now. BADM is quite broad and I found some aspects more suited to my interests than others. Operations Research and Management Science both require a heavy dose of quantitative analysis that I enjoyed. Hopefully as you progress in your studies you can find a niche within BADM that interests you.

How good of a reader are you? If you're good with grammar and seeing plot holes/difficult prose/anything editing related, that may be a field you'd be good in. I know I've looked into it.

I read at a college level when I have a decent amount of focus/interest on the material (300-400 wpm). I have trouble reading if the text is dull or uninteresting. My grammar is okay, but I have a lot of trouble with ending sentences with prepositions. I also hate writing lengthy reports/essays, so I'm unsure about pursuing anything related to that kind of thing. An editor job wasn't something I considered, thanks for the suggestion.

I chose business admin because I thought it would be easier to land a job when compared to the other options. I hope it turns out to be as flexible for me as you said, Mark.

Yehh. I know the feeling. Im going on to do my phd but im not sure what I intend to do when I finish

I want to go into research but that involves working in teams generally. I hate teamwork. My ideal job would involve travelling to deserted areas and performing aural experiments then contacting employers via email.
