Am I the only one (ironically a teen myself) who cannot STAND being around teenagers. I am at college and they are everywhere. It is like a plague! I wish that I could be with adults who are really mature and WANT to do the work but I am stuck with a bunch of annoying complaining things which like making lots of noise (I hate noise) and doing everything they can to avoid working. The whole idea of going to college is WORKING!! ! I think it is about time that social life and academics is seperated...

I hate being around children of all ages, but I could probably cope with teenagers better. At least they have the decency to STFU in public libraries.

Sorry, I can't say I share your hatred of them. Since you are in college, most will either get their act together in time or they will flunk out. Be patient. In the mean time, try to find people who share your interests, and people who meet your definition of responsible.

I've always hated teens of the NT variety, and I always will. They're stuck up, they're materialistic, and most of them don't know how to speak the English language, properly.

Half the teenage population, aspie OR NT, doesn't seem to deign to touch a dictionary, unless it's Spellcheck!

Some don't even take the time to do that much. -___-

Yes, many of them seem to be, and many of them were when I was around that age as well, but the environment I was in could not have been taken as truly representative of the whole. Those kids, some of them will never need to work a day in their lives.

I've always surrounded myself with people older than me, mostly because I couldn't tolerate the maturity level (or lack thereof) of my peers. Now at almost 30, it's improved, though I have to admit I often see the same teenagers in many of them. Like they grew up but didn't. I can't say I hate them, but I don't like the way they behave much of the time. I accept that I probably just think differently from NTs.

In college I felt very out of place, and I realize looking back that it wasn't the age difference so much (I started college at 19, but I felt like I was all grown up). I was basically the same age as they were so in retrospect I don't know why I felt that way and I can only say it has to do with my perspective. I never did have much of anything in common with my peers, I sure didn't in college (they partied so much, I spent every spare moment with my nose in a book or working) and I still don't to this day.

I think teens can be especially annoying because they act like children and expect to be treated like adults.

(Disclaimer: not all teens, I know, I know, just...many.)

That's one of the best ways I've seen it described.

YOU are NOT a hypocrit! Period. I am as angry as you are. Although my classmates seem to think I'm "cool", a trend-setter, I feel truly distant. One of the newer students pinched me quite hard out of, you know, teenaging, and I yelled quite loud. The Bible teacher [private church school] decided that I needed to name a reprimand for his actions. I, out of clouded rage and a little hunger, declared he give me a Wendy's baconator by Thursday. He's a "nice" guy, just a teenager (flirting, perhaps). One stressful day. :x

Oh, and I am also upset on the corporate buying and selling of these "teenagers". There flocks for the mall and credit card debt. Here's a good explanation.

Teenagers are stressed out and their needs are not being met (curiousity), most of school is a waste of time. The way schools are run are barbaric... like they are in the dark ages.

Old, crusty, and they kill curiosity.

My experiences are only from Michigan but......

All I will say is that the average college student I am around acts at about the maturity level of a 12 year old.

I've been to 3 different colleges now and I suspected the kids at the college I am now to be smarter- But nope, they are equally as dumb as the other 2 schools.

I usually have better conversations with my professors than the people who sit next to me in class.

I am a teenager and feel the same way about my college that I go to.

I'm a teenager too (almost 14), but I seem to be in a different boat than most of the people in this thread.

Because I love teenagers. Love love love them. I love being around them, love talking to them, love joking with them, love learning from them, love helping them - the list goes on and on. I think the teenagers I spend nearly every day with are great and can be some of the most fun people in my life.

My classmates are these social creatures with a tight-knit community that I admire greatly. Everybody knows everybody and all the news, and I really think that's a more comfortable environment to be in. The class of teenagers I'm with is full of friendly people who aren't afraid to laugh, joke around, and be themselves.

I've found lately that teenagers as a group are some of the most amazing people you can meet. We have this spark and attitude that I've never seen with anyone older or younger. We may annoy other people who are outside our age group, but we really don't let anyone else's opinions bother us.

Can we be very immature sometimes? Yeah, but we only do it to get a good laugh and feel like we have a bit more freedom, and everybody is childish from time to time - people who aren't are no fun anyway. I very rarely get annoyed at other teens. We all understand each other and are part of a civilization that's entirely our own, and we like it that no one else gets us.

I find my fellow teens fascinating and endlessly entertaining. My teen years so far have been some of the best of my life.
