I live in the UK so when I say "college" I mean, "college", not grad school, not university nothing that goes under the "college" umbrella except for what is in the United Kingdom considered to be a "college".

So I am currently studying a Level 3 Btec Extended Diploma in TV and film at Art College and I have been offered a place for a television production BSC at The University of York, I finish my Btec in June but rather than going to York this September I thought it more sensible to put off studying at York for a year so to receive child support benefits for being in full time education for a year longer, which in turn will put me in a better financial position for when I go to York; to fulfil this I have applied for a 1-year foundation Art Diploma. It is also ample opportunity to prepare in terms of adapting to independent living as well as learning necessary life skills such as cooking, driving etc, as well as to gain more professional experience from a year of networking, work experience as well as voluntary and paid work.

While I think this choice does work for me and I have discussed it with parents and tutors, I would like to have some input from people who either are or have been in a similar situation to mine or have made this decision and would like to tell me about the benefits of it or otherwise. Please share any of your comments below and vote in the poll if you feel you have a solid opinion on the matter!

I would say that IF the university willing to allow you to defer your entry for a year, and you use that year to study a Foundation Dip. in the same area, it may be a good idea.

I am currently studying an Engineering Degree in Hong Kong, and I get a Higher diploma before entering to the university, that let me feel more safe that in case I fail to get a degree, I still can use my HD to find a job. But it may be a different story for a Foundation Dip.
