I don't know if this goes here but,

I take counselling at university and the assignment is due soon. I haven't started and I need a topic! I'm supposed to:

Imagine you were to seek councelling for yourself in relation to a current life dilemma; what professional qualities would be important in the counseller you would choose to work with for your own personal counselling. You will be assessed on your understanding of yourself

The teacher said not to go into too much personal depth (dark side) and I don't want to mention my AS so what topic should do do? It's supposed to be something light that I might suffer from. I don't really have much understanding of myself and the only issues I can come up with relate somehow to my AS.
Please help soon as it is due this Thursday!

Yours,
Julia

BTW I'm looking for a topic not what qualities I need in a counsellor (that's the easy part!), so an issue might be a worry or something...

I would make something up. Seriously. I had to do that many times. If you have an understanding of what people go through in certain situations, it should be easier.

Some topics:

Relationship problems
"Stuck" in life (as in don't know what major to pick, etc)
Worried about getting older (as in having adult responsibilities) after college
Grieving a loved one who has died recently
Anxiety about college performance
Juggling school work and social life
Dealing with pressure from schoolwork
Stress of student loans
Identity problems that commonly happen with college aged students (as in you are growing up and it can be hard to find who you "really" are)

I meant making things up (cause I don't really have any issues, excepting the AS!) but thanks, your answer list can really help!

(But I'd love to hear more from you and others so don't stop!)

I will eat some dinner and think about this. I will come back with more! I'm great at making up stuff like this because all I have are dark sorts of problems, so I've been down this road a lot. 8)

Maybe go with something that's quite common,

maybe depression?

I might pick something like anxiety writing about myself. It would be accurate and relevant, making it easier than something not at all true, but funny enough to keep it light.

I'm having a brain fart and cannot think of anything else D:

I think writing about depression/anxiety in relation to college would be easy enough to write about. I mean, MOST people experience that, I bet. It's something that you can write about (because you probably have some of it), and it would probably be expected by the professor.

When I studied counseling in grad school I tended to overthink assignments like this. If given that assignment today, I would consider the above list more than adequate, close my eyes, randomly point at one, make that my choice, and just start writing. :)
